Fortec Motorsports driver Alex Kattoulas opened his 2026 GB3 Championship campaign with a steady and consistent performance at Silverstone. The Japanese-Greek racer secured two top-10 finishes and positioned himself inside the championship’s top 10 after the opening round.

Kattoulas qualified 15th and 14th for the first two races of the weekend. Despite starting further down the order than expected, he delivered consistent race performances and became one of only five drivers to finish inside the top 10 in every contest.

The former GB4 frontrunner claimed ninth-place finishes in both opening races, giving him a solid platform for the remainder of the season. However, as he said to GB3, the Fortec driver believes the results did not fully reflect his ambitions.

Kattoulas sets higher expectations for 2026 GB3 campaign

After finishing fourth in last year’s GB4 Championship, Kattoulas entered GB3 aiming to challenge near the front of the grid. Consequently, he left Silverstone feeling that both he and the team still had more potential to unlock.

“To be honest, I didn’t reach my expectations for Silverstone,” he admitted. “I’m always looking to be right at the front and that wasn’t the case for a few different reasons, but myself and the team are working hard to be better at Spa.”

Although the opening weekend proved challenging, Kattoulas remains encouraged by the groundwork already completed with Fortec Motorsports.

Adapting to the step up from GB4

Kattoulas is one of four drivers to graduate from GB4 to GB3 this season. The transition represents a significant step in performance, speed and technical demands, yet he has embraced the challenge enthusiastically.

“The jump is big, but I think the GB4 gives you a great initial platform to work from, so its been fun trying something bigger and faster!”

The increased performance level has required rapid adaptation, particularly in qualifying and tyre management. Nevertheless, the young driver believes the experience gained in GB4 has provided a strong foundation for his development.

Rather than focusing on direct competition with fellow GB4 graduates, Kattoulas prefers to concentrate on maximising his own performance.

“Not really, all I’m looking to do is maximise my driving and working with the team to get the car in the best window, and seeing what comes from that!”

Spa-Francorchamps presents new opportunity

Attention now shifts to Spa-Francorchamps, where Kattoulas will tackle the iconic Belgian circuit for the first time. The challenging layout and high-speed corners promise another important learning experience as he continues adapting to GB3 machinery.

Despite his lack of previous experience at Spa, Kattoulas is eager to embrace the challenge and continue progressing with Fortec Motorsports.

“I’m definitely looking forward to Spa! I’ve never been there before so it’s going to be a fun challenge for sure.”

The team plans to build on lessons learned during the Silverstone opener, with Kattoulas convinced that small improvements could deliver major gains up the order.

“The main goal is to improve the areas we lacked in the first round. With small improvements from Silverstone, we can make big gains and will put us where we want to be. All I’m focused on is executing that. I’m looking forward to it!”

Confidence growing ahead of Round 2

While Silverstone did not fully meet expectations, Kattoulas demonstrated consistency and maturity during his first GB3 weekend. Those qualities, combined with Fortec Motorsport’s experience, could prove crucial as the season develops.

Now, with Spa-Francorchamps approaching quickly, Kattoulas hopes to convert early lessons into stronger qualifying performances and a greater challenge near the front of the field.
