Whitney Strickland will look to continue his FRAC Masters class championship charge this weekend as the series heads to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for Rounds 7 and 8 of the 2026 season.
The Hillenburg Motorsports driver enters the event with strong momentum after a dominant weekend at Road America last month. Behind the wheel of the No. 21 TF Companies Ligier JS F3, Strickland swept both Masters class victories at the Wisconsin circuit and strengthened his control of the championship standings.
Now, the FRAC Masters points leader heads to one of North America’s most technical road courses aiming to protect and extend his advantage.
Strickland arrives with Road America momentum
Strickland’s Road America weekend gave his Masters campaign a major boost. The Texan delivered two composed and technically strong drives at the high-speed Elkhart Lake venue, allowing him to leave Wisconsin with a perfect class score.
That result helped him build an important gap over his title rivals as the championship moves into the summer phase. However, Mid-Ohio will present a very different challenge.
The 2.258-mile, 13-turn circuit rewards precision, patience and confidence through blind crests and off-camber corners. Therefore, Strickland will need to combine his current momentum with sharp adaptation during practice and qualifying.
Mid-Ohio experience gives Strickland confidence
Although this weekend marks another demanding FRAC event, Strickland will arrive at Mid-Ohio with useful prior experience.
His racing background includes competitive outings at the circuit in SCCA Formula Enterprises 2 and Spec Racer Ford machinery. As a result, he already understands several of the circuit’s key zones, including the Keyhole and the Madness complex.
Even so, he expects the track surface to create a fresh challenge after Mid-Ohio’s full repavement before the 2024 season.
“Mid-Ohio is an absolute driver’s track, and I couldn’t be more excited to return there this weekend with Hillenburg Motorsports,” said Strickland. “My past experience in SCCA FE2 and Spec Racer Ford gives me a great mental map of layout zones like the Keyhole and the Madness complex, but the surface dynamics are going to be a completely fresh puzzle. The track underwent a full repavement ahead of the 2024 season, and now that the asphalt has been curing, weathering, and taking rubber for a couple of years, the track surface grip is actively changing and maturing. Finding where the track surface is at its peak will be our first challenge.”
Adapting to the FRAC car
Strickland also highlighted the difference between his previous cars and the Ligier JS F3 used in FRAC.
The combination of increased horsepower and aerodynamic downforce will demand a different approach around Mid-Ohio’s fast and blind sections. Moreover, the circuit’s undulating layout requires drivers to commit while trusting the car underneath them.
For Strickland, that means adapting quickly and using the early running to understand how the No. 21 TF Companies Ligier behaves on the evolving surface.
“On top of an evolving track surface, managing the No. 21 TF Companies Ligier JS F3 here is a massive departure from my previous formula cars,” Strickland continued. “The huge jump in horsepower combined with the aerodynamic downforce of the FR platform means we are forcing the car into the asphalt at much higher speeds. You have to trust the aero through the blind, fast sections. We had a perfect weekend at Road America, and our main objective is to adapt quickly to these shifting track conditions to protect and expand our championship lead.”
Hillenburg Motorsports eyes strong execution
Hillenburg Motorsports will rely on Strickland’s technical feedback and circuit knowledge throughout the weekend.
Mid-Ohio’s tight and flowing layout often places a premium on car placement, rhythm and consistency. Those qualities have already defined Strickland’s Masters class campaign, and they could prove decisive again across the double-header.
Practice will give the team its first opportunity to evaluate the grip level and refine the car before qualifying. From there, race execution will become crucial, especially as the Masters title battle continues to develop.
Strickland focused on extending Masters advantage
After an undefeated Masters weekend at Road America, Strickland arrives in Ohio with confidence and a clear objective.
The Hillenburg Motorsports driver already holds the Masters class points lead, but Mid-Ohio’s technical nature and evolving surface will demand a precise approach from the opening laps.
If Strickland and the team can adapt quickly, the weekend could offer another valuable opportunity to strengthen their championship position in FRAC.
