Evagoras Papasavvas overcame a qualifying penalty and mechanical trouble to secure three podium finishes during a dramatic 2026 Formula Regional Americas Championship (FRAC) weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS).

The Crosslink Motorsports driver entered the event among the leading championship contenders and immediately demonstrated competitive pace. He qualified third for the opening race, but a post-qualifying penalty sent him to the back of the 15-car grid.

However, Papasavvas responded with one of the standout performances of the weekend. He climbed 13 positions to finish second before adding third and second-place results in the remaining races.

Although victory remained out of reach, the three podiums allowed him to collect valuable points as the championship approaches the second half of the season.

Papasavvas began the Indianapolis weekend with the pace to challenge at the front after securing third place in qualifying. However, the subsequent penalty forced the Loveland, Ohio native to start Race 1 from 15th. Rather than allowing the setback to derail his weekend, he immediately began working his way through the field.

Papasavvas made steady progress as the race developed and gained 13 positions before crossing the line in second place. His recovery limited the damage to his championship campaign and transformed a difficult starting position into a significant points haul.

Furthermore, he recorded the fastest lap of the race. That result placed him on pole position for Race 2 and gave him an opportunity to fight for victory from the front of the grid.

Mechanical trouble interrupts Race 2 victory bid

Papasavvas capitalised on pole position and controlled much of the second contest. The Crosslink Motorsports driver led for almost two-thirds of the race and managed the pace from the front. His performance placed him firmly in contention for the win after his recovery drive earlier in the weekend.

However, a rear bar failure changed the handling of his car during the closing stages. The issue prevented Papasavvas from maintaining his earlier pace and forced him to surrender the lead.

Despite the mechanical problem, he kept the car inside the podium positions and finished third. The result brought more championship points, although it also left him reflecting on an opportunity that slipped away.

Second place completes triple-podium 2026 FRAC IMS weekend

Papasavvas started the final race from second and once again joined the battle at the front. He maintained his position among the leaders throughout the contest and crossed the finish line in second place. Consequently, he completed all three Indianapolis races on the podium.

The result also reinforced his consistency during a weekend that repeatedly tested both driver and team. A penalty, a recovery drive and a mechanical failure all threatened his points total, yet Papasavvas still left the circuit with three top-three finishes.

Papasavvas acknowledged the frustration of missing out on victory but praised Crosslink Motorsports for providing a competitive car throughout the event.

“It wasn’t exactly the weekend we wanted when we arrived at Indianapolis,” explained Papasavvas. “Sometimes championships are about maximizing the days when things don’t go your way. Starting at the back after qualifying third was frustrating and then having the rear bar issue while leading Race Two was tough to swallow. That said, the team gave me a great car all weekend, and we were still able to come away with three podiums and a lot of championship points. We’ll take the positives, keep working, and come back stronger for the next round.”

Papasavvas remains firmly in the title fight

Although Papasavvas missed the top step of the podium, his Indianapolis results strengthened his championship campaign.

His charge from the back in Race 1 demonstrated his ability to recover from adversity, while his performance in Race 2 showed that he possessed the pace to challenge for victory. He then added another controlled podium finish in the final race.

As the title battle intensifies, consistency could prove crucial. Papasavvas maximised his opportunities at Indianapolis and avoided a major loss of points despite the problems that affected his weekend. Crosslink Motorsports and Papasavvas will now use the break to prepare for the next stage of the campaign.
