Nico Varrone will return to the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with TF Sport at the 6 Hours of São Paulo, replacing Nicky Catsburg in the No. 33 Corvette Z06 GT3.R.
Catsburg will miss the Brazilian event because of a clash with his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship commitments. Therefore, Varrone will share the LMGT3 entry with Jonny Edgar and Ben Keating, reuniting with a driver alongside whom he enjoyed significant WEC success in 2023.
Varrone renews successful Corvette partnership
Varrone previously raced with Keating and Catsburg during Corvette Racing’s final season in the LMGTE Am category.
The trio won the 2023 class championship with two rounds remaining and also claimed victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That campaign established Varrone as one of endurance racing’s leading emerging drivers and preceded his promotion to FIA Gold status.
The 25-year-old later secured another Le Mans class victory in 2024, winning the LMP2 Pro-Am division with François Perrodo and Ben Barnicoat. He then stepped into the WEC’s top category with Proton Competition’s Porsche 963 in 2025, scoring his best result of the campaign at São Paulo.
His return comes immediately after the No. 33 TF Sport crew won the LMGT3 class at Le Mans, giving Varrone the opportunity to help Edgar and Keating build on that result in Brazil.
F2 rookie balances single-seaters and endurance racing
Varrone currently competes in Formula 2 with Van Amersfoort Racing after returning to full-time single-seater competition for 2026. The Argentine sits 18th in the Drivers’ Championship with 14 points after the opening six rounds. Despite focusing primarily on F2, he has retained his links with Corvette as a factory driver and remains available for selected sports-car appearances.
São Paulo will mark Varrone’s first WEC start since the 2025 season finale in Bahrain. His experience with Corvette machinery, previous success alongside Keating and familiarity with Interlagos should allow him to make a swift transition into TF Sport’s lineup.
The 6 Hours of São Paulo will take place on 10 July as the WEC resumes following the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
