The 2026 Formula Regional Americas Championship (FRAC) heads to New Jersey Motorsports Park for its fifth event weekend as an increasingly close title battle enters the second half of the season.
Evagoras Papasavvas remains at the top of the championship, but Brady Golan transformed the picture by sweeping all three races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Only 10.5 points now separate the leading pair, while Cooper Shipman remains third and Kekai Hauanio sits fourth with three more races available at New Jersey.

FRAC reunites with F4 U.S. and the Ligier Junior Formula Championship at New Jersey Motorsports Park after contesting its own standalone triple-header at Indianapolis.
The New Jersey Lottery Racing America event takes place on the Thunderbolt Course, a 2.25-mile, 12-turn clockwise road course in Millville, New Jersey. With the championship now beyond its halfway point, the three races could play an important role in determining which drivers remain at the centre of the title fight heading towards the final three events.
New Jersey also presents a different challenge from Indianapolis. Drivers must find consistency around the relatively compact Thunderbolt layout while managing three races across two days, leaving little room for a poor Qualifying session or an early setback.
Weekend schedule
FRAC will contest three races at New Jersey, beginning with Qualifying on Saturday morning. The opening race follows later that afternoon before Sunday features a double-header to complete the weekend.

The additional third race creates more opportunities for the championship contenders than the two-race Mid-Ohio weekend. However, it also increases the potential cost of incidents, penalties or reliability problems as every remaining point grows more valuable.
Papasavvas holds increasingly narrow championship lead
Papasavvas remains the driver everyone else must catch after building his championship campaign around victories and consistent podium finishes.
The Crosslink Motorsports driver entered Indianapolis with a considerably larger advantage, having won at least once during each of the opening three event weekends. However, Golan’s perfect Indianapolis performance dramatically reduced that margin.
The pair now sit only 10.5 points apart and have collectively won all but two races this season. Therefore, the championship has increasingly developed into a direct contest between Papasavvas and Golan as the second half begins.
Papasavvas will nevertheless arrive with several advantages. Crosslink has consistently placed cars near the front throughout the season, while the championship leader has already demonstrated that he can combine outright pace with the consistency required across multi-race weekends.
New Jersey now gives him an opportunity to stop Golan’s momentum before the championship moves to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Golan arrives with perfect Indianapolis momentum
Golan enters New Jersey as the championship’s form driver after producing the first three-race sweep of his 2026 campaign at Indianapolis.
The Toney Driver Development driver had already established himself as a regular winner before the standalone FRAC weekend. However, his Indianapolis performance transformed a title challenge that had previously suffered from inconsistent results.
Three victories significantly reduced Papasavvas’ advantage and placed Golan only 10.5 points behind heading to New Jersey. Moreover, the pair have now accounted for the overwhelming majority of victories this season.
Consequently, Golan no longer needs only isolated wins to bring himself back into contention. He has created a genuine opportunity to leave New Jersey as the championship leader if he can maintain his Indianapolis form across another triple-header.
At the same time, Toney Driver Development also needs his results in the increasingly close Teams’ Championship battle. Every position between Golan and the Crosslink drivers could therefore influence two separate title contests.
Shipman returns to scene of 2025 success
Shipman remains firmly involved in third after combining one victory with five podium finishes during his first FRAC season.
The Kiwi Motorsport driver entered 2026 after winning the F4 U.S. Championship and earning the scholarship that allowed him to move into Formula Regional machinery. Although Papasavvas and Golan have created some separation at the front, Shipman’s consistency has kept him within reach as the season enters its second half.
New Jersey also carries particularly positive memories for Shipman. He swept the F4 U.S. races at the circuit during his 2025 title campaign, making the Thunderbolt Course one of the venues where he enjoyed his strongest performances.
That previous success does not guarantee the same outcome in the more powerful Ligier JS F3, but his knowledge of the circuit could prove valuable. Shipman has already demonstrated race-winning pace this season and will need another strong weekend if he wants to reduce the gap to Papasavvas and Golan before the closing rounds.
Hauanio remains an outside title threat
Hauanio gives Crosslink a second driver inside the championship’s top four.
The Rookie scored his first victory of the season at Mid-Ohio and has remained a regular presence towards the front. However, Golan’s Indianapolis sweep and Papasavvas’ consistency have left Hauanio 60 points behind his teammate heading into New Jersey.
That margin places greater pressure on the remaining weekends, but the championship still offers enough races for Hauanio to recover ground. A three-race event at New Jersey creates a particularly important opportunity because one strong weekend can produce a significant points swing.
Furthermore, Hauanio can influence the championship even if he cannot immediately erase the complete deficit. Finishing between Papasavvas and Golan could directly affect the leading pair’s title battle while also helping Crosslink in its fight with Toney Driver Development.
Masters Cup fight intensifies after three Indianapolis winners
The Masters Cup arrives at New Jersey with its own increasingly competitive championship battle.
Whitney Strickland continues to lead after adding his seventh class victory of the season at Indianapolis. However, the triple-header also produced breakthrough or returning successes for both Anthony Autiello and Kevin Janzen.
Autiello returned after missing the Road America and Mid-Ohio events and claimed his second victory of the campaign. Although those absences leave him third in the standings, his winning pace keeps him relevant whenever he competes.
Janzen, meanwhile, finally converted his consistent form into a victory during the Indianapolis finale. The Crosslink driver sits second in the Masters standings after recording seven podiums, meaning he remains Strickland’s closest championship rival.
With three races available at New Jersey, Janzen has another opportunity to reduce the deficit. However, Strickland’s seven victories demonstrate the challenge facing anyone attempting to displace him from the top of the classification.

Strickland returns with a fresh look
Strickland will also arrive at New Jersey with a revised appearance after Hillenburg Motorsports rebuilt and refreshed his #21 Ligier.
Heavy contact during Race 2 at Indianapolis forced him to miss the final race of that weekend. Since then, the team has repaired the car and prepared a new livery for the opening event of the second half.
The missed Indianapolis finale prevented Strickland from adding further points, but his seven victories have still kept him at the head of the Masters Cup standings. New Jersey therefore gives him an immediate opportunity to re-establish momentum after an event that ended earlier than planned.
Toney Driver Development and Crosslink separated by two points
The Teams’ Championship could hardly remain closer heading into New Jersey.
Toney Driver Development leads Crosslink Motorsports by only two points after 11 races. TDD drivers have combined for five victories and 11 podium finishes, while Crosslink has recorded four victories but leads the championship with 13 podium appearances.
Those numbers reflect two different routes to almost identical championship totals. TDD has enjoyed a slight advantage in victories, particularly after Golan’s Indianapolis sweep, while Crosslink has regularly placed several cars among the leading positions.
New Jersey could therefore produce significant swings. Papasavvas and Hauanio provide Crosslink with two of the top four championship drivers, while Bobadilla and Aidan Schuh add further opportunities to collect team points.
TDD, meanwhile, will look to Golan to continue his winning run while its wider line-up attempts to protect the narrow advantage.

Bobadilla brings F4 NACAM winning form to New Jersey
Alejandro Bobadilla arrives at New Jersey directly from another successful single-seater weekend.
The Crosslink driver competed in F4 NACAM at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez before travelling to NJMP and delivered another dominant performance. He claimed pole before converting that pace into victories in Race 1 and Race 2.
Those results increased his F4 NACAM victory total to seven and maintained his championship lead in that series.
The challenge now changes considerably as Bobadilla returns to Formula Regional machinery. Nevertheless, another weekend of competitive track time should leave him well prepared as he attempts to move further forward in FRAC.
Schuh combines New Jersey weekend with Homes For Our Troops initiative
Crosslink’s Aidan Schuh will also welcome a special guest into the team during the New Jersey weekend through his partnership with Homes For Our Troops.
A military veteran will join Crosslink as a VIP guest and experience the race weekend from inside the team. The initiative continues Schuh’s relationship with Homes For Our Troops and its work recognising and supporting veterans.
On track, Schuh will continue building experience as part of Crosslink’s multi-car FRAC programme. With the Teams’ Championship separated by only two points, strong performances throughout the line-up could carry additional significance at NJMP.
Final race before the new academic year
For several FRAC competitors, New Jersey also represents the final race weekend before academic commitments return alongside their motorsport programmes.
Golan and Papasavvas have both recently graduated from high school and will begin college during the coming academic year. Golan will move to the University of Texas at Austin campus while studying economics through Austin Community College’s transfer programme, while Papasavvas will begin his studies at the University of Cincinnati.
Kiwi Motorsport’s Harbir Dass will also return to Georgia Institute of Technology after completing his undergraduate studies. He will begin a master’s degree in mechanical engineering while continuing his FRAC programme.
For now, however, their focus remains entirely on New Jersey and another three-race weekend before the championship moves into its final stretch.
Championship prize increases pressure in second half
The championship battle carries substantial financial significance in addition to the title itself.
The 2026 FRAC champion will receive $100,000, while the runner-up earns $20,000 and the third-place finisher receives $10,000. With Papasavvas and Golan separated by only 10.5 points, those prizes add further significance to every race during the second half.
Shipman remains well positioned to challenge for one of the leading championship places, while Hauanio still has enough races available to close his 60-point deficit. Moreover, three contests at New Jersey create greater potential for major swings than the two-race Mid-Ohio weekend.
Therefore, reliability and consistency could prove just as valuable as outright speed. A victory can transform a championship weekend, but one non-finish could surrender a large amount of ground when the leading drivers sit so closely matched.
New Jersey could reshape the FRAC title fight
FRAC arrives at New Jersey with a considerably different championship picture from the one that left Mid-Ohio.
Papasavvas remains the leader, but Golan’s Indianapolis sweep has reduced what had been a comfortable advantage to only 10.5 points. Shipman remains close enough to capitalise if the leading pair encounter trouble, while Hauanio continues to pursue his Crosslink teammate from fourth.
The Masters Cup also enters a key stage, with Strickland attempting to respond after his Indianapolis weekend ended early and Janzen arriving after finally securing his first victory. Meanwhile, only two points separate Toney Driver Development and Crosslink in the Teams’ Championship.
New Jersey therefore begins the second half with significant implications throughout the field. Three races, a tight Thunderbolt Course and several close championship battles leave little margin for error as FRAC prepares for its latest triple-header.
