Citroën Racing Formula E team have confirmed that both Nick Cassidy and Jean Eric-Vergne will stay put with the French outfit ahead of the new 2026/27 season.
With a drastic change set to face the Formula E field in the form of GEN 4, Citroën Racing has opted to stay put with their experienced but formidable driver pairing of Cassidy and Vergne.
Citroën opt for experience ahead of GEN 4 era for Formula E
Sitting fifth in the constructors standings, the French outfit head into the last round of 2026 satisfied with their debut campaign.
Four podium finishes for Cassidy along with a victory (Citroën’s maiden win in the all-electric category) in Mexico City sees the Kiwi still within mathematical contention of championship glory as the series heads to London for the closing round.
While results haven’t come for Vergne this campaign, 2026 has continued to highlight the Frenchman’s prowess with a superb drive in Shanghai seeing the back-to-back Formula E champion deliver a fifth podium for Citroën.
“We still have plenty of work ahead of us,” admitted Vergne speaking about his contract extension.
“I’m confident we’ll arrive at the start of Season 13 with strong foundations and be ready to fight from the very first race.”
GEN 4 set to deliver challenges but opportunities to climb up order
The arrival of GEN 4 for 2027 sees a dramatic pace increase in comparison to its predecessor, the 2026 GEN 3 EVO car.
Set to be 10 seconds quicker in qualifying mode than this year’s cars, GEN 4 will deliver 50% more power in race mode and a car capable of reaching speeds in excess of 335KPH.
“It’s an exciting time for Formula E, with a new generation of car that represents a completely new challenge,” Cassidy said speaking about the new challenge set to face his Citroën Racing team.
“I can’t wait to keep working with the whole team and unlock the full potential of the GEN4 once it hits the track.”
His teammate Vergne echoed Cassidy’s comments, claiming the new GEN 4 cars are “incredibly exciting.”
“Developing a new generation of race car is always a unique challenge for a driver. The arrival of the GEN4 is incredibly exciting and will mark a major step forward for the championship.“
