2026 British F4 | Round 7: Donington Park GP | Wherrell closes to four points as three winners share spoils

The 2026 Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by FIA, returned to Donington Park for Round 7 as the title fight tightened significantly with only three meetings remaining.

Four months after the National circuit hosted the season opener, the championship returned to Leicestershire to tackle the longer Grand Prix layout. Dries Van Langendonck entered the weekend with a 41-point championship advantage over Lewis Wherrell following a difficult Round 6 at Thruxton, but the Rodin Motorsport driver did not feature in the official Donington classifications and remained on 194 points throughout the weekend.

Wherrell capitalised with three points-scoring finishes, including two podiums, to move within only four points of the championship lead. Meanwhile, Jaber Alsabah continued his breakthrough form with a second consecutive victory in Race 1, Scott Kin Lindblom became the season’s 12th different winner in the reverse-grid contest and George Proudford-Nalder claimed his second victory of 2026 in the Feature Race.

2026 British F4: Donington Park GP: Qualifying: Harfield claims double pole

Tommy Harfield opened Round 7 by taking his first CADOLA Watches Pole Position Award of the season and securing pole position for both Race 1 and the Feature Race.

Ethan Jeff-Hall appeared well placed to take pole during the closing stages, but Harfield produced two strong laps late in the session to move to the top. His 1:29.540 ultimately proved enough to beat Proudford-Nalder by 0.080s, while Jeff-Hall finished another 0.035s behind in third. Alsabah followed in fourth, only 0.135s from pole, with Ethan Lennon and Theo Palmer completing the top six.

Wherrell qualified seventh ahead of Roman Felber, Jarrett Clark and Cameron Nelson, while Lindblom placed 11th. The field remained closely matched, with 21 drivers finishing within one second of Harfield and 28 of the 29 competitors within 1.25s.

Second-fastest lap times also placed Harfield on pole for Race 1, with Alsabah alongside him. The main Qualifying classification determined the Feature Race grid, meaning Harfield and Proudford-Nalder occupied the front row for Sunday afternoon’s final contest.

2026 British F4: Donington Park GP: Race 1: Alsabah makes it back-to-back victories

Alsabah arrived at Donington having claimed his maiden single-seater victory in the Thruxton Feature Race, and the Xcel Motorsport rookie immediately carried that momentum into Race 1.

Harfield started from pole, but Alsabah made the stronger launch from the front row and out-dragged the Chris Dittmann Racing driver towards Redgate. Once ahead, the Kuwaiti driver quickly attempted to establish a gap while the battle for the remaining podium positions intensified behind him.

Jeff-Hall initially passed Harfield as the field descended through the Craner Curves, but Harfield responded quickly and reclaimed second. The pair remained closely matched for much of the race, and their fight eventually allowed them to begin closing on Alsabah as the contest moved towards its final stages.

Harfield reduced the leader’s advantage to less than half a second but could not create a clear opportunity to attack. Jeff-Hall remained directly behind him and ensured Harfield also had to defend rather than focus solely on the leader. Alsabah responded on the final lap by producing the fastest lap of the race and pulled clear enough to take his second consecutive victory by 0.680s.

Harfield secured second ahead of Jeff-Hall, while Proudford-Nalder held off Wherrell to take fourth. Palmer completed the top six, followed by Lennon, Nelson and Hewetson. Clark crossed the line 10th after a five-second track-limits penalty affected his final result.

The victory lifted Alsabah’s season tally to two and continued Xcel Motorsport’s resurgence after the team had ended a 455-day British F4 win drought at Thruxton only one round earlier.

2026 British F4: Donington Park GP: Race 2: Lindblom becomes season’s 12th different winner

Sunday began with another new name joining British F4’s rapidly expanding list of race winners as Lindblom converted a front-row start into his maiden victory.

The Hitech driver lined up second alongside reverse-grid polesitter Mercier but immediately made the better launch. Lindblom powered into the lead approaching Redgate and quickly established control of the race, maintaining a steady advantage while several drivers fought for position behind him.

Wherrell provided one of the standout drives of the contest. Starting sixth, the JHR Developments rookie gained two positions during the opening sequence before arriving behind Mercier and Clark as the pair fought approaching Goddards. Wherrell sold both drivers a dummy under braking, committed to the inside and passed them simultaneously to move into second.

From there, Wherrell attempted to close on Lindblom but could not reduce the Hitech driver’s advantage enough to mount a serious attack. Lindblom maintained control through to the chequered flag and added the fastest lap to his maiden win, becoming the 12th different victor across the opening 20 races of the season.

Wherrell finished 1.245s behind and collected another important result in his championship pursuit. Clark recovered to secure third and his third podium of the season, while Mercier claimed a season-best fourth. Nelson finished fifth ahead of Palmer, with Proudford-Nalder, Lennon, Hewetson and Jeff-Hall completing the top 10.

2026 British F4: Donington Park GP: Race 3: Proudford-Nalder profits from leaders’ clash

Harfield returned to pole position for the Feature Race and initially resisted Proudford-Nalder’s challenge into the opening corners. However, Jeff-Hall quickly emerged as the greater threat and passed the Virtuosi Racing driver to take second.

The Mercedes F1 Junior then placed Harfield under sustained pressure at the front. Before he could launch a decisive move, however, debutant O’Grady went off and prompted the first Safety Car period of the race, bunching the field together and setting up a crucial restart.

Jeff-Hall attacked immediately when racing resumed. He ran alongside Harfield exiting the Old Hairpin and maintained his position through Schwantz Curve, giving him the inside line into McLeans. Harfield continued fighting around the outside, but slight contact between the pair sent both cars spinning into the gravel and eliminated the two leading contenders.

Proudford-Nalder inherited first as a result, while Lennon moved into second and Wherrell climbed to third. Another Safety Car followed the Harfield-Jeff-Hall collision, before further incidents during the final restart brought the race to an early conclusion.

The interruption secured Proudford-Nalder’s second victory of the season after his earlier BRDC International Trophy success at Silverstone. Lennon finished 0.549s behind to record his strongest result since the opening part of the campaign, while Wherrell completed another important championship weekend with third.

Palmer finished fourth ahead of Clark and Race 2 winner Lindblom. Nelson took seventh, with Roman Felber, Mercier and Bättig completing the top 10. Sadiq recorded the fastest lap despite being classified as a retirement.

Championship picture: Wherrell moves within four points of Van Langendonck

The Drivers’ Championship changed dramatically across the Donington weekend. Van Langendonck arrived with a 41-point advantage on 194 points, but he did not appear in the official classifications and therefore remained on the same total after Round 7.

Wherrell took full advantage. Fifth place in Race 1 provided a solid start before he added second in the reverse-grid contest and third in the Feature Race. Those consistent results moved the JHR Developments driver from 153 to 190 points and reduced his championship deficit from 41 points to only four.

Palmer remains firmly involved in third after finishing sixth, sixth and fourth across the three contests. He moves to 169.5 points, leaving him 24.5 behind Van Langendonck and 20.5 behind Wherrell. Jeff-Hall stays fourth on 148.5 after his Race 1 podium and Race 2 top-10 finish, although his Feature Race retirement prevented him from making a larger gain.

Proudford-Nalder’s victory and two additional points finishes produced one of the weekend’s biggest advances. He moves from sixth to fifth on 144.5 points, four ahead of Lindblom, whose maiden victory helps him reach 139. Lennon climbs to seventh on 108 after his Feature Race runner-up result, while Al Azhari, Harfield and Alsabah complete the top 10.

Rookie Cup: Wherrell takes championship lead

The Rookie Cup produced an even more significant change. Van Langendonck entered Donington 26.5 points ahead of Wherrell, but his unchanged total of 248 allowed the JHR Developments driver to overturn the deficit completely.

Wherrell’s three strong results lifted him from 221.5 to 274.5 points. He therefore leaves Donington with a 26.5-point advantage over Van Langendonck, reversing the exact margin that separated them after Thruxton.

Alsabah remains third and moves to 209 points following his Race 1 victory, while Nelson continues his consistent rookie campaign in fourth on 201.5. Hedfors rounds out the top five on 130, narrowly ahead of Kobakhidze and Jüngling.

Hitech strengthens Teams’ Championship control

Hitech extended its advantage at the top of the Teams’ Championship after Lindblom’s breakthrough Race 2 victory and another consistent weekend from Palmer.

The team moves from 342.5 to 384.5 points and now holds a 102.5-point advantage over Rodin Motorsport. Although Rodin gained valuable points through Lennon’s Feature Race podium and other finishes, it reaches only 282 after Round 7.

Virtuosi Racing made the largest move among the leading teams. Proudford-Nalder’s Feature Race victory, Clark’s Race 2 podium and further points throughout the weekend lifted the squad from 221.5 to 277.5, leaving it only 4.5 points behind Rodin.

JHR Developments remains fourth on 249 after Wherrell’s two podiums and Nelson’s consistent scoring. Argenti Motorsport holds fifth on 146.5, while Alsabah’s Race 1 victory helps Xcel Motorsport climb to sixth on 100, only one point ahead of Fortec Motorsport. Chris Dittmann Racing follows on 98 after Harfield’s pole positions and Race 1 runner-up finish.

Conclusion

Donington Park significantly tightened the championship picture as British F4 entered the closing stages of its 2026 season. Alsabah followed his Thruxton breakthrough with another victory in Race 1 before Lindblom finally converted his strong underlying pace into a maiden win. Proudford-Nalder then completed the weekend with his second victory of the campaign after the Harfield-Jeff-Hall battle ended in contact.

However, Wherrell arguably gained the most from the weekend without winning a race. Three strong finishes, including second and third on Sunday, transformed a 41-point championship deficit into only four points. He also moved ahead of Van Langendonck in the Rookie Cup, turning a 26.5-point deficit after Thruxton into an advantage of exactly the same size.

Meanwhile, Palmer remains within striking distance of the leading pair, while Proudford-Nalder and Lindblom strengthened their positions through their respective victories. Hitech continues to control the Teams’ Championship, but the battle behind has tightened considerably after Virtuosi Racing moved to within 4.5 points of Rodin Motorsport.

British F4 continues at Croft Circuit on 5–6 September, where Van Langendonck and Wherrell will arrive separated by only four points with three rounds remaining.
