2026 British F4 | Round 6: Thruxton | Three new winners emerge as Van Langendonck retains lead

The 2026 Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by FIA, returned to the United Kingdom for Round 6 at Thruxton, the fastest circuit on the calendar.

Dries Van Langendonck arrived at the high-speed Hampshire venue with a 47-point Drivers’ Championship lead after winning twice during the previous round at Zandvoort. However, the Rodin Motorsport rookie endured two retirements before recovering to third in the Feature Race.

Meanwhile, Theo Palmer secured his maiden British F4 victory in a shortened Race 1. Adam Al Azhari then controlled the reverse-grid contest before Jaber Alsabah converted his maiden pole position into victory in Race 3. Consequently, the season has now produced 11 different winners across its opening 18 races.

Lewis Wherrell capitalised on Van Langendonck’s difficult weekend by scoring in Race 1 and finishing second in Race 3. He reduced the Belgian’s championship advantage to 41 points, while Palmer moved within 7.5 points of the JHR Developments driver.

2026 British F4: Thruxton: Qualifying: Alsabah beats Wherrell by 0.007s

Alsabah secured his first British F4 pole position after prevailing in one of the closest Qualifying sessions of the season.

The Xcel Motorsport rookie moved to the top during the final three minutes and completed his fastest lap in 1:11.805. Wherrell finished only 0.007s behind, while Palmer placed third at 0.044s from pole.

Ethan Jeff-Hall followed in fourth, only 0.057s away from Alsabah’s benchmark. Van Langendonck placed fifth, with Ethan Lennon and Jarrett Clark completing the seven drivers separated by less than one tenth of a second.

The margins remained extremely close throughout the 30-car field. Nineteen drivers finished within half a second of pole, while 29 ended the session less than one second behind Alsabah.

However, second-fastest lap times determined the Race 1 grid. Palmer consequently started the opener from pole alongside Van Langendonck, while Alsabah retained first place for Sunday’s Feature Race.

2026 British F4: Thruxton: Race 1: Palmer claims maiden victory in shortened opener

The first attempt to start Race 1 ended almost immediately after contact involving Jüngling, Sun and championship debutant Firhand.

Firhand also struck the rear of Mercier’s car at Cobb and damaged his front-right suspension. Officials red-flagged the race, while the damage to Firhand’s chassis forced the Indonesian to withdraw from the rest of the meeting.

Officials restarted the contest from the original grid approximately 20 minutes later. Palmer retained the lead from Van Langendonck, while Smith quickly emerged as one of the fastest drivers in the field.

The Virtuosi Racing driver passed Jeff-Hall before overtaking Van Langendonck at the Club chicane. However, Palmer maintained enough of an advantage to keep Smith behind.

Van Langendonck then came under pressure from Jeff-Hall. Their battle ended at Campbell on lap five when the rear of Jeff-Hall’s car broke away under braking and sent him into the side of the championship leader.

The contact forced Van Langendonck onto the grass and eventually into the pits. Officials later held Jeff-Hall responsible and added five seconds to his result, dropping him from third on the road to 10th.

Further incidents brought the race to an early conclusion. Roman Felber made contact with Al Azhari at Goodwood, leaving the Hitech car stranded before Sadiq clipped it and sustained suspension damage.

Officials red-flagged the race after seven official laps and did not restart it. As the contest failed to reach 75 per cent of its scheduled distance, drivers received half points.

Palmer led all seven laps and finished 0.663s ahead of Smith to become the season’s ninth different winner. Proudford-Nalder inherited third following Jeff-Hall’s penalty, while Lennon and Clark completed the top five.

2026 British F4: Thruxton: Race 2: Al Azhari controls reverse-grid contest

Al Azhari started the reverse-grid Race 2 from pole and immediately retained the lead.

Behind him, Lindblom passed Harfield and Proudford-Nalder during the opening exchanges to move into second. However, the race quickly turned against Van Langendonck for the second consecutive time.

Clark struck the rear of the championship leader’s car as the field approached the Club chicane, damaging Van Langendonck’s rear wing and forcing the Rodin driver into the pits.

A separate incident at Club then brought out the first Safety Car. Smith made contact with Kobakhidze and sent the Xcel Motorsport rookie into teammate Hewetson’s path, leaving both cars stranded.

Lindblom pressured Al Azhari when racing resumed. However, the Swedish driver soon came under attack from Harfield and Proudford-Nalder, with both moving ahead.

Lindblom attempted to regain third from Proudford-Nalder at Club. He lost control after running onto the dust, jumped across the kerb and collided with the Virtuosi Racing car. Both drivers retired, and officials deployed the Safety Car again.

The race ended under neutralised conditions. Al Azhari therefore claimed his first victory of the season ahead of Harfield.

Clark crossed the line third but received a five-second penalty for his contact with Van Langendonck. The penalty dropped him to 12th and promoted Jeff-Hall onto the podium.

Alsabah finished fourth ahead of Lennon and Rookie Cup winner Nelson. Roman Felber secured a season-best seventh, while Bättig, Jüngling and Slater completed the top 10.

2026 British F4: Thruxton: Race 3: Alsabah withstands Wherrell pressure for maiden win

Alsabah started the Feature Race from pole following his Qualifying performance and retained the lead at the start.

Wherrell and Jeff-Hall fought for second behind him, while Palmer made contact with Lennon at Seagrave and sent the Rodin driver towards the barriers.

The race continued briefly before Lindblom tagged Jüngling along the pit straight and caused terminal damage to the JHR car. Officials deployed the Safety Car, reducing Alsabah’s early advantage.

A three-way contest for victory developed after the restart as Wherrell and Jeff-Hall remained close to the leader. Van Langendonck also recovered from fifth and joined the leading battle around the halfway point.

However, the race required another Safety Car period after Sadiq spun Belofsky at Cobb. Sutton could not avoid the incident and struck the Fortec Motorsport car.

Officials restarted the race with four laps remaining. Wherrell continued pressuring Alsabah but could not find a way past the Kuwaiti rookie.

Meanwhile, Van Langendonck attacked Jeff-Hall for third. He completed the move exiting Club on the final lap and salvaged his only finish of the weekend.

Alsabah crossed the line 0.269s ahead of Wherrell to claim his maiden single-seater victory. He became the season’s 11th different winner and delivered Xcel Motorsport’s first British F4 win for 455 days.

Jeff-Hall finished fourth ahead of Harfield and Palmer, while Smith placed seventh and recorded the fastest lap.

Championship picture: Van Langendonck’s lead falls to 41 points

Van Langendonck arrived at Thruxton with a 47-point advantage following his dominant Zandvoort meeting.

However, incidents removed him from Race 1 and Race 2 before his Feature Race podium provided 15 points. The Rodin Motorsport rookie now holds 194 points and leads Wherrell by 41.

Wherrell strengthened his title challenge through seventh in the half-points opener and second in Race 3. He moved to 153 points, while Palmer climbed to third on 145.5 after securing his maiden win and finishing sixth in the Feature Race.

Jeff-Hall advanced to fourth with 133.5 points after claiming podiums in Race 2 and Race 3. Lindblom remains fifth on 119 despite failing to score on Sunday.

Proudford-Nalder holds sixth ahead of Race 2 winner Al Azhari. Lennon and Harfield remain separated by one point, while Alsabah’s maiden victory lifted him from 21st to 10th.

Rookie Cup: Wherrell closes on Van Langendonck

Van Langendonck also retained the Rookie Cup lead, although Wherrell reduced the difference from 43 points to 26.5.

The Rodin driver holds 248 points, while Wherrell follows on 221.5. Alsabah’s pole position, fourth place in Race 2 and maiden Feature Race victory moved him to third with 184.

Nelson remains fourth following two Rookie Cup podiums at Thruxton, while Jüngling completes the leading five.

Hitech extends Teams’ Championship advantage

Hitech strengthened its position at the top of the Teams’ Championship after Palmer and Al Azhari won the opening two races.

Palmer also finished sixth in Race 3, while Bättig scored in both Sunday contests. Consequently, Hitech increased its total to 342.5 points.

Rodin Motorsport remains second on 257 after Lennon finished fourth and fifth in the opening two races before Van Langendonck took third in the Feature Race.

Virtuosi Racing follows on 221.5 points, only 19.5 ahead of JHR Developments. Xcel Motorsport moved level with Chris Dittmann Racing on 73 following Alsabah’s pole and victory.

Conclusion

Thruxton continued the remarkable variety that has defined the opening half of the 2026 British F4 season.

Palmer ended his wait for a maiden victory before Al Azhari controlled the reverse-grid race. Alsabah then completed the weekend with his first single-seater win and delivered a landmark result for Xcel Motorsport.

Van Langendonck endured his most turbulent meeting since Silverstone, but his final-lap pass for third in Race 3 limited the damage. Nevertheless, Wherrell reduced the championship deficit, while Palmer and Jeff-Hall moved closer to the leading pair.

Hitech also maximised a weekend in which its drivers won two races, extending the team’s advantage over Rodin Motorsport to 85.5 points.

British F4 will return after its August break at the Donington Park Grand Prix circuit on 22–23 August for Rounds 19, 20 and 21. Van Langendonck will arrive with control of both drivers’ competitions, but Thruxton demonstrated that the championship remains far from settled.
