Nick Cassidy can definitely be satisfied about his Monaco E-Prix weekend in spite of a bad beginning. In fact, his Saturday was severely affected by an excessive energy defect. That unfortunately limited his possibility to fend off other drivers’ assaults especially towards the end of the race.

An unexpected positive result

On the other hand, Sunday was a completely different story. In fact the Kiwi driver managed to complete a strong recovery driver which saw him move up from P11 to P3. On the slippery streets of the Principality Cassidy moved up two spots on the first lap. Luckily, he was then instead able to save up the power needed to defend from Da Costa’s last minutes effort.

Championship contender of Season 10, 2025 has been a tougher time so far for Cassidy, only once in the points. The Kiwi has just scored the first podium of his second year with Jaguar, on the seventh race of 2024-2025.

The former Envision driver discussed his racing weekend with Pit Debrief after the end of Race 2. In particular, he began by breaking down the sections it can be split in.

“Yeah it was a tough weekend. FP3 we were strong so I thought if today was dry that we were going to have a good day but in all honesty in the race I always felt very good.”

He then highlighted the moment which made him realize a great final result could be in the cards.

“It was just a question of like okay where will we get to in the early stage of the race. I thought maybe we can get to P6, P7 but then it became clear just before the second attack mode that, okay, more was going to be possible so that was really nice.”

Not a fan of the calendar change

Cassidy also spoke against the introduction of a second race during the Monaco E-Prix weekend. The Kiwi cited as reason the prestige of achieving a race win at the track, which can be diluted by having two winners in consecutive days, although the second leg of the double header ultimately only assisted him.

“I’m very… It’s strange. I think that there should be one winner of Monaco, I think that Monaco is a special race and it should be a one-off, the winner should be able to go to the nightclub on a Saturday night but in my case I’m very happy that we had a second race.”

Formula E will resume its action in Tokyo in two weeks time with yet another double header.
