Speaking in his print media session ahead of the F1 Imola GP, Fernando Alonso paid tribute to Fabrizio Borra, his long time psyhio who passed away a few days ago following a battle with cancer.
Borra worked with big names such as MotoGP rider Andrea Dovizioso, Italian cyclists Marco Pantani and Paolo Bettini, as well as helping Michael Schumacher recovery from his broken leg picked up in a crash at the 1999 British Grand Prix.
Alongside Edoardo Bendinelli, Fabrizio Borra was a key man for Fernando Alonso over the last 23 years since the Spaniard made his F1 debut at the Australian GP with Minardi.
Alonso reflects on a tough week
Paying tribute to Fabrizio Borra ahead of the F1 Imola GP, Fernando Alonso discussed their journey together and the extraordinary career the Italian physio had with many big names.
The two-time F1 World Champion is certain Borra’s work will be remembered and his memory will live on.
“Tough week, tough days, I think, for all the people that worked with him for many, many years.
“I started with Fabrizio in 2001 at Minardi. And after 24 years together, obviously we lived so many things together, experienced and travelled around the world 24 times. And yeah, very, very sad.
“But at the same time, he was a man, I think, with strength and dedication that was very noticeable in all the disciplines. A man that worked for Pantani in cycling and some other great cyclists, worked for some TV shows and TV characters in Italy, also in some of the athletes here in Italy at the Olympic level.
“And yeah, all in all, I think, in all the sports, he was able to give something extra to the athlete and to the community.
“So, you know, it was sad, but I think he will be remembered. That’s very important for a person that dedicates all his life to the sport, and he will be remembered.”
