Mick Schumacher “always wanted to do single-seaters” as he is set to test with IndyCar team, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
The former Haas driver is currently racing with in WEC with Alpine Endurance Team. Although 2025 is his second full season with Alpine in WEC, the German stated, “single-seaters is something I burn for”.
When asked if single-seater racing is on his mind ahead of the Fuji WEC weekend, Schumacher answered, “One hundred per cent – I have always wanted to do single-seaters.”
“Sportscars has been fun, [but] single-seaters is something I burn for and I love, and I am excited to get back into it.”
Looking towards IndyCar
Schumacher scheduled his IndyCar test debut with RLL on October 13 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. The current Alpine Endurance driver will drive the Dallara-Honda DW12 on the road course formation of IMS.
Schumacher was enthusiastic about the IndyCar Series, a championship where he will reencounter former F2 title rival Callum Ilott.
“IndyCar has some great talent, and you can see that the races are pretty fun and there are a lot of battles going on.”
“Also, lots of guys out there I have raced against in the junior formulae, and it will be interesting to see them.”
The former Mercedes test and reserve driver acknowledged the differences between IndyCar and other single-seater racing series he competed in.
“I do want to try out some different classes. Schumacher continued. “I think it will be very different to this [racing in Hypercar in the WEC], but also, I guess, different to F1.”
The German driver noted that he could go back to endurance racing, stating, “I am still pretty young.” However, Schumacher is still rumored to stay in WEC with Jota Cadillac for 2026 and hopefully move back to F1 as a test driver for its F1 Team.
