The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the Macau Grand Prix Organising Committee have announced the official entry list for the 2025 FIA FR (FR) World Cup, which will headline the 72nd Macau Grand Prix from 13–16 November. This year’s edition features 27 drivers representing 15 countries and regions, all under the age of 25, competing across 10 leading international single-seater teams.

The event, which carries the prestigious Macau Grand Prix title, brings together the best emerging Formula Regional talent from around the world. They will contest one of motorsport’s most respected single-event titles on the legendary 6.120 km Guia Circuit. The FIA Formula Regional (FR) concept unites the top performers from FIA-certified regional championships, allowing them to compete internationally. Drivers face each other on equal machinery, showcasing pure skill and adaptability across different racing backgrounds and continents. Each driver will race a Tatuus FIA FR chassis powered by an Autotecnica-built Alfa Romeo engine. This ensures a level playing field.

A championship with global reach

The 2025 entry list reflects the worldwide nature of the category, featuring frontrunners and champions from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Six of the confirmed drivers have either won or remain in contention for FIA-certified FR titles this season.

From Europe’s Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA), title rivals Freddie Slater (Great Britain), Matteo De Palo (Italy), and Enzo Deligny (France) headline the entry, continuing their battle on Macau’s streets. Japan’s Kiyoshi Umegaki and Tokiya Suzuki currently lead the FR Japan standings, while Evan Giltaire (France) enters as the reigning FR Middle East Champion.

Also joining the grid are several FIA Formula 3 Championship drivers, including Mari Boya (Spain), Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak (Thailand), Théophile Naël (France), Noah Strømsted (Denmark), and Charlie Wurz (Austria). Each will seek to conquer the famously unforgiving Guia Circuit and add Macau success to their growing résumés.

World-class teams return and new entrants join the grid

Ten of the world’s most respected single-seater teams will field entries this year, combining returning champions and debut participants.

Defending winners R-ace GP return to Macau after guiding Ugo Ugochukwu to victory in 2024. The French team currently lead the FRECA standings and has demonstrated excellence across several FIA championships.

SJM Theodore Prema Racing also return, fielding a powerful line-up that includes Freddie Slater, Rashid Al Dhaheri, and local favourite Hon Chio Leong, a two-time Guia Circuit race winner. Prema currently sits second in the FRECA Teams’ Championship and remains one of the most successful names in junior motorsport.

New entrants Trident Motorsport and Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) bring added strength to the grid. Trident arrive following a championship-winning FIA Formula 3 campaign, while VAR hold third in FRECA and boast prior Macau podium success.

Other returning contenders include ART Grand Prix, Evans GP, Pinnacle Motorsport (KCMG ENYA), TOM’S Racing, PHM Racing, and Saintéloc Racing, each bringing a wealth of international experience.

A truly international field

The 27-driver line-up represents every corner of global FR competition, from Europe to Asia and the Americas. Several competitors have prior experience of the Macau circuit, while others arrive as series champions or front-runners ready to make their debut.

Event format and schedule

The FIA FR World Cup will feature two practice sessions and two qualifying sessions, followed by a 10-lap Qualification Race and a 15-lap Main Race. Each session will unfold on Macau’s world-famous Guia Circuit, renowned for its narrow confines, long straights, and punishing barriers.

Fans can watch all the action live and free via the FIA’s official YouTube channel. The event forms part of a wider FIA-sanctioned line-up during Macau Grand Prix week, alongside the FIA GT World Cup, the Kumho Tire FIA TCR World Tour, and the debut FIA Formula 4 World Cup.

FIA Formula 4 World Cup joins the programme

Alongside the Formula Regional showpiece, Macau will host the first FIA Formula 4 World Cup in November. The event will showcase the next generation of international F4 talent on the iconic 6.120 km Guia Circuit.

A 20-car grid has been confirmed, featuring national F4 champions and leading competitors from four continents. The FIA selected drivers based on national F4 championship performances and official submissions from international organisers.

The entry includes 2025 F4 champions Fionn McLaughlin (British), Gino Trappa (Central European Zone), Alexandre Munoz (French), and Kean Nakamura-Berta (Italian). It also features Emanuele Olivieri, the Middle East F4 title winner, and Shimo Zhang, champion of Chinese F4. Other standout names include Itsuki Sato, current Japanese F4 points leader, and Thomas Bearman from British F4. Sebastian Wheldon, racing in Italian F4, and Rintaro Sato, son of Takuma Sato, also join the grid. Local talent will represent Macau through Man Hei Cheong and Tiago Golovko Rodrigues. Young British-Indian driver Aryaman Bansal, who turns 16 before the event, will be the youngest competitor.

All drivers will race Mygale FIA F4 chassis powered by Alpine-built engines for performance parity.
Mintimes will provide operational and technical support with FFSA and Ligier collaboration. The FIA F4 World Cup will feature two practice sessions and one qualifying session. Drivers will then compete in an eight-lap Qualification Race and a 10-lap Main Race on the Guia Circuit.

A celebration of global junior motorsport

The inclusion of both the FIA FR World Cup and FIA F4 World Cup reinforces Macau’s position as a global showcase for junior single-seater racing. Together, these two events provide a direct link in the FIA’s development pathway from national F4 competitions to regional and international Formula championships.

With 47 drivers from over 20 nations set to compete across the two headline events, the 2025 Macau Grand Prix will once again stand as one of the greatest celebrations of young racing talent in the world.
