TRIDENT has confirmed Australian Formula 3 driver, James Wharton, for penultimate round in Qatar. Martinius Stenshorne was given a drive with TRIDENT in Baku. He has since switched to his 2026 team Rodin Motorsport for the remaining rounds. This opportunity fell into the hands of Wharton.

Wharton will not be competing in the Formula 2 Championship in 2026, rather will continue his Formula 3 campaign. The Australian made his Formula 3 debut this season. Despite it being his rookie season, the Australian put in a strong effort, finishing 18th in the Championship overall. He was even able to take his maiden win in the Austrian Sprint Race.

Wharton spoke on the opportunity he was given, sharing his gratitude and excitement. He also described the huge step this will be for his career.

“I am incredibly grateful to Trident Motorsport for giving me this opportunity to race in the FIA Formula 2 Championship. It’s definitely a huge step in my career; there will be new challenges, starting with a more powerful car, longer races, increased tire degradation, and pit stops. There will be a lot to learn, but I’ll try to make the most of this opportunity. Even though I won’t be racing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship next year, this is definitely a great opportunity to learn something new, grow, and bring home a good result.”

Team Manager of TRIDENT, Giacomo Ricci also shared his thoughts. He noted the joy TRIDENT feels to bring on Wharton. Ricci also highly praised the talent showcased by the Australian.

“We are extremely happy to be able to field James Wharton in the next round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship. He is undoubtedly one of the most talented emerging drivers we have seen in FIA Formula 3 this year. James is an extremely capable and fast driver. Making his debut in Lusail will certainly be a great challenge, but we have carried out intense preparation work that, I am confident, will bear fruit.”
