The grid for the upcoming 2026/27 Formula E season is starting to shape up, with beloved names returning to the electrical competition. New talents and proven competitors alike will team up to run and understand the new and improved Gen4 challenger, with the inaugural round of the season hosted in Jeddah in December.

The entire grid will reunite, with some major changes, for pre-season testing in Jarama on 16th to 20th November, allowing for an in-depth first experience of the drastically different, more technological cars.

But who will be behind the wheel?

Andretti Racing

2022/23 Formula E champion Jake Dennis continues his long term partnership with Andretti, entering his seventh year with the American outlet after another incredibly successful campaign which almost led to his second title.

For the second year in a row, Dennis will partner up with former Formula 2 champion Felipe Drugovich. The Brazilian impressed in his first season driving electric challengers, even securing his first career podium in the competition at the prestigious Monaco round.

Citroën Racing

The French outlet too opted for continuity, retaining both Nick Cassidy and Jean-Eric Vergne for the upcoming new season. The New Zealander had impressed on his debut with Citroën, taking two podiums and a precious first win with his new team in Mexico City. While ultimately he dropped out pretty soon from the championship race, he still put in several great performances, including a strong double podium finish in Tokyo.

Vergne, on the other hand, had a more subdued season, needing more rounds in order to be able to resume fighting for the top positions. Ultimately, the Asian leg smiled to him too, taking up his first silver cup for the French outlet in Shanghai. The established driver duo will instead pair up with new Team Principal Beth Paretta, who will fill in the void left by the passing of the beloved Cyril Blais.

Cupra Kiro

An old friend returns to the 2026/27 Formula E grid following a short absence from the electric championship. Former NEOM McLaren man Jake Hughes will resume his full time career with Gen4 after one season serving as Reserve Driver for Mahindra. The two times podium finisher will demonstrate his speed again in the upcoming season, aiming to secure his first ever race win in the series.

Hughes will line up with returning Pepe Martí. The Spaniard debuted in the last Gen3Evo season, impressing with his speed, pace and race craft, securing two podiums in Monaco and Sanya. In spite of a rocky start following his retirement in the inaugural São Paulo E-Prix, Martí was able to secure strong performances and a positive final haul of 66 points.

Opel

For their first season in the championship, Opel has opted for an appropriate mixture of new talents and established experience, aiming for the perfect balance with their appointments. Multiple times championship contender Mitch Evans will complete with the French outlet his first ever season without Jaguar Racing in ten years, after yet another rather successful but challenging year waiting for his very elusive first title.

Evans will line up with debutant Theo Pourchaire. The 2023 Formula 2 champion will mark his full time electric debut with the new Gen4 rules with Opel, while has already had a taste of electrical racing. In fact, he had participated in four testing sessions driving Gen3 and Gen3Evo challengers in Berlin, Jeddah, Miami and Madrid.

Paysafe Envision Racing

A whole new driver lineup awaits Envision Racing following the retirement from Formula E of Sébastien Buemi and Joel Eriksson. Maimilian Günther will make his debut in green looking for revenge after a rather challenging second year with DS Penske, ended with an overall eighteenth place and no podiums to his name.

At the other side of the garage, Reserve and Simulator drover for the team for the past two seasons O’Sullivan will step into his first ever full time role within the championship, after four experiences testing Gen3 and Gen3Evo machinery. The former Formula 2 and Formula 3 race winner, who is competing in Super GT this season, was fastest in the past Miami Rookie testing sessions, right ahead of future rival Pourchaire.

Jaguar TCS Racing

Following Mitch Evans’ departure from the factory team, Jaguar will hold on to his former teammate and former Porsche man Antonio Felix da Costa. The Portuguese, former Formula E champion, has displayed strong bouts of pace and performance throughout his first year with the new team, and a sophomore year with the same personnel will help strengthen his championship odds.

Lola Racing

No drivers have been announced up to now for this team, albeit of new Deputy Team Principal announcement and new team name, with the end of the outlet’s partnership with Yamaha and ABT.

Mahindra Racing

After a rather successful season, the Indian team has opted to continue with the driver duo which secured race wins and the highest number of pole positions in the final season of just ended Gen3Evo racing. Edoardo Mortara and Nyck de Vries will resume their partnership with Mahindra Racing, aiming at confirming the strong feeling displayed throughout the 2025/26 Formula E season.

Nissan Racing

Championship contender Oliver Rowland has confirmed his intentions to continue pursuing his quest for a second electric title with Nissan Racing. It’ll be the fourth year of his reunion with the Japanese outlet, which has proven rather successful up to the past season.

Following the departure of veteran Norman Nato from Nissan Racing, Zane Maloney will take on the challenge of gunning for his first ever Formula E podium in the upcoming 2026/27 season alongside the renewed grid. Former Formula 2 race winner, Maloney has definitely encountered struggles in his two previous years in the championship, scoring only three points over the span of his two seasons period with Lola Yamaha ABT. However, a change of place and scenery might deeply assist the young Boy from Barbados.

Porsche Formula E

The team host to the 2025/26 championship winner will retain his trustworthy driver lineup of Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Mueller. The tested and tried driver duo has shown great teamwork throughout the span of the previous season, with Mueller supporting the former Formula 1 driver in securing his second electric title, especially in the later, decisive steps of the season in London.

Fortescue Zero

Finally another team will make its Formula E debut in the 2026/27 season, replacing on the grid DS Penske. Two familiar names and talented E-Prix winners will join forces for the first time in their young careers: Taylor Barnard and Dan Ticktum.

Barnard, who claimed his first laurels in the series in the final London E-Prix of the past season, has displayed very strong consistency of performance and results in his previous experiences with NEOM McLaren and DS Penske in spite of his rather young age. At the other side of the garage, Ticktum will bring in plenty of experience and raw pace over from his Cupra Kiro long stint.

In spite of a more challenging 2025/26, the Brit was still able to secure his second race win towards the end of the Asian leg, setting good foundations for a new beginning under the brand of the Australian-sponsored team working with Williams.
