2026 British F4 | Round 8: Croft | Van Langendonck doubles up and extends title lead to 33 points

The 2026 Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by FIA, returned to Croft for Round 8 as Dries Van Langendonck reasserted control of the title fight with victories in two of the weekend’s three races.

Van Langendonck arrived in North Yorkshire only four points ahead of Lewis Wherrell after serving a one-event suspension during Round 7 at Donington Park GP. His return immediately changed the championship picture. The Rodin Motorsport driver took pole, dominated Race 1 and then won the landmark 350th British F4 race on Sunday afternoon.

George Proudford-Nalder prevented Van Langendonck from completing a clean sweep by mastering difficult wet conditions in the reverse-grid Race 2. Meanwhile, Wherrell scored in all three races, including podiums in the opener and Feature Race, but still saw his championship deficit increase from four to 33 points with two rounds remaining.

2026 British F4: Croft: Qualifying: Van Langendonck returns with double pole

Van Langendonck immediately established himself as the benchmark on his return to British F4. The Belgian moved to the top early in Saturday’s Qualifying session and remained there as the field completed its final attempts, eventually securing his third CADOLA Watches Pole Position Award of the season with a 1:17.866.

Chiara Bättig produced her strongest Qualifying performance of the campaign to finish only 0.098s behind. Wherrell matched her 1:17.964 exactly but took third in the classification, while Adam Al Azhari finished fourth ahead of Ethan Lennon and Theo Palmer. Ethan Jeff-Hall followed in seventh, with Cameron Nelson, Tommy Harfield and Scott Kin Lindblom completing the top 10.

The session determined two different grids. Each driver’s fastest lap set the order for Sunday’s Feature Race, placing Van Langendonck and Bättig on the front row. The second-fastest laps determined Saturday’s opening grid, where Van Langendonck again claimed pole but Wherrell joined him on the front row, ahead of Jeff-Hall and Bättig.

2026 British F4: Croft: Race 1: Van Langendonck controls opening contest

Van Langendonck converted the second-fastest-lap pole into a commanding victory on Saturday afternoon. Wherrell started alongside him, but Jeff-Hall made the stronger launch from third and immediately moved ahead of the JHR Developments driver as the field attacked the opening sequence.

Once Van Langendonck established himself at the front, he never relinquished control. The Rodin Motorsport driver led all 16 laps and steadily created enough of an advantage to remove Jeff-Hall from realistic striking distance. He also set the fastest lap, allowing him to combine the outright victory with Rookie Cup honours and the Lotus Fastest Lap point.

Jeff-Hall remained comfortably in second for much of the race, while Wherrell followed closely enough to secure another important podium in third. Behind them, Bättig and Palmer produced one of the strongest battles of the contest. Palmer initially gained fourth, but Bättig attacked at the final corner on the opening lap and reclaimed the position before resisting pressure from her Hitech teammate throughout the remaining distance.

Al Azhari completed a strong Hitech group in sixth, while Lennon finished seventh ahead of Lindblom. Nelson and Proudford-Nalder rounded out the top 10. Van Langendonck ultimately crossed the line 3.609s ahead of Jeff-Hall, with Wherrell only 0.238s further behind.

2026 British F4: Croft: Race 2: Proudford-Nalder masters wet conditions

Sunday brought a completely different challenge as damp conditions greeted the field for the reverse-grid contest. Alsabah started from pole, but Proudford-Nalder and Lindblom both launched more effectively and swept past the Xcel Motorsport rookie on the run towards Clervaux.

Proudford-Nalder emerged ahead, but Lindblom refused to allow the Virtuosi Racing driver any breathing room. The pair quickly separated themselves from the chasing group and spent much of the race locked into a close battle, with Lindblom repeatedly searching for a route past in the difficult conditions.

However, Proudford-Nalder defended cleanly and denied every attempt. He eventually completed the 14 laps only 0.595s ahead of Lindblom to claim his third victory of the season after previous successes at Silverstone and Donington Park GP. Lindblom added the Lotus Fastest Lap to his second-place finish with a 1:26.724.

Alsabah recovered from losing the lead at the start to claim third and Rookie Cup honours. Jeff-Hall finished fourth after remaining close to the podium fight, while Palmer took fifth. Van Langendonck produced an important recovery from 12th on the reverse grid to sixth, limiting the opportunity for Wherrell to reduce his championship advantage.

Harfield finished seventh ahead of Lennon, while Wherrell could manage only ninth. Smith completed the top 10 after climbing six places from 16th, as the slippery conditions created substantial movement throughout the field.

2026 British F4: Croft: Race 3: Van Langendonck wins landmark 350th race

The championship reached a major milestone in the Feature Race as British F4 staged its 350th contest, with Van Langendonck again starting from pole and Bättig alongside him on the front row.

Van Langendonck made another clean launch and immediately retained first, while Wherrell and Lennon both passed Bättig during the run towards the opening corner. That promoted Wherrell from third to second and placed him directly behind the championship leader for the remainder of the race.

Wherrell remained close throughout the 19 laps and repeatedly kept Van Langendonck under pressure. However, the Rodin Motorsport driver maintained enough control through the technical sections to deny his rival a clear passing opportunity. The pair remained separated by only fractions of a second as the chequered flag approached, but Van Langendonck ultimately prevailed by 0.369s.

The victory gave Van Langendonck his sixth win of 2026 and his second of the Croft weekend. He also recorded the fastest lap and claimed another Rookie Cup win, completing an almost perfect return after missing the previous Donington meeting.

Lennon completed the podium in third and finished 5.969s behind the winner. Bättig remained close throughout and finished just 0.342s behind the Rodin driver in fourth, while Palmer completed the top five ahead of Jeff-Hall. Harfield, Alsabah, Hewetson and Cash Felber rounded out the points-paying positions.

Championship picture: Van Langendonck rebuilds advantage to 33 points

Croft reversed much of the championship movement from Donington Park GP. Van Langendonck entered the weekend on 194 points and only four ahead of Wherrell after missing the entirety of Round 7. His Croft return yielded two victories, two fastest laps and sixth in the reverse-grid race, taking him to 257 points.

Wherrell remained consistently competitive but could not match his rival’s return. Third in Race 1 kept him close before ninth in the wet reverse-grid contest cost him ground. He responded with second in the Feature Race, but he leaves Croft on 224 points and 33 behind Van Langendonck.

Palmer remains third on 195.5 points after recording three top-five finishes across the weekend. Jeff-Hall also scored strongly and moves onto 181.5 in fourth, only 14 behind Palmer. Proudford-Nalder’s wet-weather Race 2 victory keeps him fifth on 156.5, ahead of Lindblom on 144 and Lennon on 130.

Al Azhari remains eighth on 112 despite his Feature Race retirement, while Harfield follows by only one point. Alsabah completes the championship top 10 on 105 after adding another podium and Rookie Cup victory during the Croft weekend.

Rookie Cup: Wherrell retains lead despite Van Langendonck double

The Rookie Cup follows a different points structure and leaves Wherrell ahead despite Van Langendonck’s outstanding Croft weekend.

Wherrell entered the round 26.5 points ahead after using Van Langendonck’s Donington absence to take control of the classification. The Belgian reduced that deficit considerably at Croft through his two victories and sixth in Race 2, but Wherrell’s own three scores kept him narrowly in front.

The JHR Developments driver now holds 316.5 points, 10.5 ahead of Van Langendonck on 306. Alsabah remains third on 244 after taking the Rookie Cup victory in Race 2, while Nelson sits fourth on 222.5. Hedfors completes the top five on 149.

Hitech retains Teams’ Championship lead

Hitech remains firmly in control of the Teams’ Championship despite Rodin Motorsport enjoying the strongest headline results at Croft.

Palmer scored in all three races, including fifth in both Sunday contests, while Bättig produced fourth-place finishes in Race 1 and the Feature Race. Lindblom added a runner-up finish and fastest lap in the wet Race 2, helping Hitech increase its total to 448.5 points.

Rodin Motorsport nevertheless reduced the gap through Van Langendonck’s two victories and Lennon’s Feature Race podium. The team reaches 357 points and now trails Hitech by 91.5, down from 102.5 after Donington.

The battle for third remains considerably tighter. Virtuosi Racing sits on 289.5 after Proudford-Nalder’s Race 2 victory, only 3.5 points ahead of JHR Developments on 286. Argenti Motorsport follows on 177.5, while Xcel Motorsport, Chris Dittmann Racing and Fortec Motorsport remain closely grouped further back.

Conclusion

Croft restored Van Langendonck’s advantage after Donington had threatened to transform the Drivers’ Championship into an almost level fight. The Belgian returned from his one-event absence with pole position, victories in Races 1 and 3 and two fastest laps, turning a four-point championship lead into a 33-point cushion over Wherrell.

Proudford-Nalder provided the only interruption to Van Langendonck’s winning weekend by defeating Lindblom in a closely fought wet reverse-grid race. Bättig also produced one of her strongest weekends of the season with second in Qualifying and two fourth-place finishes, while Lennon returned to the podium in the landmark 350th British F4 race.

However, the championship remains open with six races remaining. Wherrell continues to lead the Rookie Cup and sits within 33 points of Van Langendonck overall, while Palmer and Jeff-Hall remain the nearest challengers behind the leading pair. Hitech also maintains control of the Teams’ Championship, although Rodin reduced its deficit through Van Langendonck’s double.

British F4 now heads back to Silverstone for the penultimate meeting of the 2026 season on 26–27 September, where the title fight will enter its final six races.
