Earlier in the weekend, Lando Norris claimed Sprint pole in a tight one-lap shootout. He then converted that into Sprint Race victory, becoming the first non-Mercedes winner of the 2026 season. Piastri completed a McLaren 1–2 at the finish. Meanwhile, Leclerc secured the final podium spot, while Antonelli dropped from P4 to P6 after receiving a post-race five-second penalty for track limits. Notably, Nico Hülkenberg, who had been unable to start the Sprint Race due to a power unit issue, was back in action for Qualifying.

Q1

Q1 of the 2026 Miami GP Qualifying began with Bortoleto held in the garage, as Audi investigated his Sprint Race disqualification. Despite making it out with seven minutes to go, his brakes caught fire, forcing him to stop on track.

Antonelli topped Q1 with a late push on fresh softs. Meanwhile, Piastri scraped through in P16 by just over two tenths. As a result, Lindblad, Alonso, Stroll, Bottas, Pérez and Bortoleto were all eliminated.

Q2

Q2 began after a brief delay to clear Bortoleto’s car. Early on, Verstappen led before Hamilton moved to the top. Nevertheless, Norris struggled throughout and could only manage P9.

With two minutes to go, Antonelli set a new best of 1:28.289 on fresh softs. However, Verstappen then improved to go fastest overall. In the end, Hülkenberg, Lawson, Bearman, Sainz, Ocon and Albon were all eliminated.

Q3

Q3 began with all ten drivers initially staying in the garage. McLaren headed out first, followed by Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes. On the first runs, Antonelli grabbed provisional pole with a stunning 1:27.798, nearly four tenths clear of Leclerc.

However, no significant improvements came on the final runs. Verstappen was the only one to go purple, yet still finished 0.166s back. In the end, Antonelli held on to claim pole position for the 2026 Miami GP.
