The 2026 GB4 Championship continues at Donington Park this weekend, with 28 young drivers preparing to contest rounds seven, eight and nine of the season.
Two days of testing open the event before Qualifying and Race 1 launch the competitive action on Saturday. Two further contests then complete the weekend on Sunday at the iconic East Midlands venue.
The championship arrives at its third round with a closely matched leading group, several different race winners and increasingly intense battles throughout the field. Furthermore, early testing times suggest that small margins could once again separate the main contenders.
Green leads tight three-way 2026 GB4 title battle ahead of Donington Park
Elite Motorsport’s Fred Green travels to Donington Park at the top of the Drivers’ Championship after an impressive start to his 2026 campaign.
Green has accumulated 140 points across the opening six races, while KMR Sport’s Alex O’Grady follows just 13 points behind. Hillspeed’s Enzo Hallman also remains firmly in contention with 122 points, leaving only 18 points between the leading three drivers.
Green strengthened his early advantage at Oulton Park by converting pole position into victory in Race 1. However, O’Grady responded in Race 2, controlling the contest from pole to claim his first victory of the campaign. Hallman joined both drivers on the podium in the first two races, underlining the consistency that has placed him within striking distance of the championship lead.
Consequently, Donington Park could play a crucial role in shaping the first half of the title fight. Green will aim to protect his advantage, while O’Grady and Hallman have already demonstrated the pace to challenge him across both Qualifying and the races.
Oulton Park winners add further depth to the field
Although the leading three drivers currently occupy the strongest championship positions, several others have already shown race-winning or podium-contending pace.
Pace Performance’s Josh McLean delivered one of the standout drives at Oulton Park. He passed polesitter Dayton Coulthard at two separate starts following a red flag and then controlled Race 3 to secure his maiden GB4 victory. Coulthard finished second, while Elite Motorsport’s Emmilio Valentino Del Grosso claimed third after emerging from a lengthy battle involving several cars.
Fortec Motorsports driver Thomas Ingram Hill occupies fourth in the standings with 98 points following a consistent start to the season. Jason Smyth sits fifth on 81, while Matan Achituv holds sixth with 76.
Coulthard and Hillspeed’s Connor Willis share 72 points, while Del Grosso and Pace Performance’s Torrin Byrne complete the championship top 10.
Meanwhile, Hillspeed leads the Teams’ Championship with 194 points. Douglas Motorsport follows on 170, while Fortec Motorsports occupies third with 158. KMR Sport and Pace Performance remain close behind, adding another competitive dimension to the weekend.
2026 GB4 Donington Park testing indicates another close fight
Donington Park already provided several drivers with an early opportunity to establish their pace during the championship’s official test in March.
Luke Hilton topped both days for Nitrous Competitions ADM Racing and produced a 1:28.546 on the second day. Ingram Hill finished only 0.057 seconds behind, while Green, O’Grady and Franciszek Cegielski completed the top five.
However, Thursday’s pre-event testing offered a different order.
O’Grady led the opening day with a 1:29.769, while Hallman finished only 0.007 seconds behind. Championship leader Green took third, just 0.048 seconds away from the benchmark.
Ingram Hill and Hilton completed a top five covered by less than three-tenths of a second. Furthermore, only 0.651 seconds separated the top 10, while the leading 14 drivers all finished within one second of O’Grady.
Those margins point towards another fiercely competitive Qualifying session. Donington Park rewards confidence through its fast, flowing corners, but drivers must also position their cars carefully for overtaking opportunities under braking.
With such a large and closely matched field, traffic management could also play a decisive role during the short Qualifying session.
Hilton targets breakthrough after strong Donington form
Hilton enters the event as another driver capable of disrupting the championship leaders. The British driver demonstrated his Qualifying pace at Silverstone, where he originally secured pole position for the opening two races. Yellow-flag infringements later removed those grid positions, forcing him to begin each contest from the back.
He then showed competitive pace at Oulton Park and finished fifth in Race 2 before taking seventh in the final contest. His impressive Donington testing record now gives him another opportunity to convert his speed into a major result.
Furthermore, Hilton will compete alongside a new teammate this weekend. Jamie Leverton has moved from Idola Motorsport to Nitrous Competitions ADM Racing for the remainder of the season, expanding the team to three cars alongside Hilton and Caitlyn McDaniel.
Leverton has completed every race so far and scored his first GB4 points at Oulton Park. Therefore, he will aim to continue that progress as he begins the next phase of his rookie campaign.
Rookie contenders prepare for another close contest
The large grid also features several drivers at the beginning of their single-seater careers. Fortec’s Cegielski has regularly led the Rookie runners and claimed the category’s highest finish in the first two Oulton Park races. His consistent performances have also placed him within the overall championship’s leading group.
Conor Grant, Michael Koh, Jordyn Martin, Charlie Myers, Enzo Rujugiro and Archie Bullard will also continue their development at Donington Park. Meanwhile, Leverton will attempt to use his new team environment to move further into the points.
Five female drivers also feature in the 2026 field, with Lily-May Watkins, Holly Miall, McDaniel, Martin and Solenn Amrouche continuing their campaigns. The highest-scoring female driver at the end of the season will receive a €50,000 contribution towards a potential future F1 Academy programme.
