Race 1 of the 2026 Indy NXT by Firestone doubleheader at Mid-Ohio has been completed, view the full results here.
Before the race began, Colin Kaminsky encountered trouble in the pitlane and missed the opening pace laps. He eventually joined the field and returned to his original grid position before the green flag.
Enzo Fittipaldi made a strong start from pole, while Jack Beeton takes second place from Salvador de Alba at turn 5.
Max Taylor ran off at turn 2, briefly getting airborne as he travelled through the gravel. He rejoined at the back of the field.
Kucharczyk charges into second
On lap 5, Nicolas Stati stopped on track, bringing out the first full-course caution of the race. Stati is diagnosed with a fuel-pressure issue and rejoined the race one lap behind the leaders. Stati continued to make repeated visits to the pit lane before returning, officially five laps down from the leaders.
Fitipaldi maintained the lead when the race returned to green, but Kucharczyk made an immediate charge forward. He passed de Alba for third before claiming second from Beeton.
Behind the leading pair, Alessandro de Tullio, Hughes, and de Alba battled for fourth. Myles Rowe climbed to 15th after starting from the final row of the grid.
Three cautions interrupt the race
The second full-course caution came out when Allaer stopped near Turn 6 with issues shifting gears.
Fittipaldi produced another strong restart. Further back, Garcia and Correa made contact before Garcia secured ninth.
Kaminsky, who suffered a steering wheel issue before the start, had a moment off at turn 1.
James Roe spun it at turn 2 and made contact with Nicolas Monteiro, sending the Chip Ganassi driver to the back of the field.
The third full-course caution came out when JM Correa’s No. 68 stopped against the tire barrier. The AMR Safety Team pulled him free, and he returned to the pitlane before rejoining one lap down.
Fittipaldi completes dominant victory
With 10 laps remaining, Fittipaldi made another brilliant restart.
Rowe and Taylor passed Koolen for 11th and 12th before both overtook Jordan Missig moments later.
Fittipaldi took the checkered flag with the fastest lap, finishing 1.8 seconds ahead of Kucharczyk in second and Beeton in third. HMD Motorsports finished 1-2-3-4, after dominating practice earlier.
Race 2 follows tomorrow, providing another opportunity to shake up the championship standings.
