Finn Wiebelhaus continues to navigate the early stages of his DTM and GT racing career while striving for success in one of the most competitive environments in world motorsport. The Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) demands precision, adaptability and consistency, with drivers often separated by the smallest of margins across a race weekend.

In an exclusive interview with Pit Debrief, Wiebelhaus, the reigning ADAC GT Masters champion, shared his perspective on what separates occasional frontrunners from those who consistently fight at the front. In addition, he reflected on his long-term ambitions, offering insight into the goals that continue to motivate him as he builds his career in GT racing.

Wieblehaus acknowledges the fine margins that define success in DTM and GT racing

Wiebelhaus emphasises that the defining characteristic of DTM lies in its extreme competitiveness, particularly during qualifying. With such a tightly packed field, even the smallest time differences can dramatically affect track position.

“Yeah, I mean, I fully agree [with Arjun]. It’s just [such a] competitive field that it’s so close in the end in the Qualifying. Half a tenth or a tenth means about six or more positions.”

This reality places immense pressure on drivers to deliver near-perfect laps. Even minor errors or slight imbalances in car setup can quickly compromise an entire session.

“So in the end, it’s just so competitive. And if something goes slightly wrong, you do a mistake, or the setup is not in the perfect window, then you just lose so many positions in the end.”

Therefore, success depends not only on outright pace but also on execution across every phase of the weekend. Drivers must consistently operate at a high level to remain competitive.

Furthermore, beyond individual performances, Wiebelhaus identified consistency as the key factor that ultimately determines championship success. While standout results can provide momentum, steady points scoring often proves more valuable over the course of a season.

“And yeah, it’s just about maximising every place you can do on the race weekend. And consistency is key to win the championship in the end.”

He reinforced this point by referencing how a measured and consistent approach can outweigh early dominance. In a championship as competitive as DTM, maintaining form across all rounds becomes crucial.

“So like we saw last year, I think Ayhancan [Güven] was not on top in the beginning of the season, but he consistently scored good points, and that secured him the championship in the end.”

Ambition drives long-term career goals for Wiebelhaus

Looking ahead, Wiebelhaus remains both grounded and ambitious. He acknowledges the significance of his current position while continuing to set clear targets for the future. Competing in DTM at a young age represents a major milestone in itself. At the same time, however, he remains aware of the opportunities ahead and the work required to maximise them. His perspective reflects both appreciation and determination.

“I mean, first of all, I can be super proud of myself and I’m super happy where I am right now. I mean, I’m still 19 [sic. 20] and I’m able to drive DTM this year. So I’m super happy about this opportunity.”

Building on this foundation, Wiebelhaus has already identified key achievements he hopes to secure in the coming years, particularly within endurance racing.

“Yeah, maybe in the future. Yeah, for sure. In the next years, I want to win some endurance races as well, like 24 Hours of Spa. It’s always a special event where to win would be special.”

In parallel, success within DTM remains a major objective as he continues his development in the championship.

“And also winning some races in the DTM, I would consider a big milestone in the future, in the next years, hopefully.”

Building a legacy in GT racing

Despite setting clear goals, Wiebelhaus understands that motorsport careers rarely follow a fixed path. As a result, he maintains a flexible outlook while focusing on steady progression.

“And then I would say, just see where we end up in the end because I think it’s always hard to plan where your career goes in the end.”

Ultimately, his long-term ambition centres on building a strong reputation within GT racing. Rather than focusing solely on results, he aims to leave a lasting impression through his achievements and consistency.

“But I really hope that, yeah, I make myself a good name in the GT class in the end of my career.”

As Wiebelhaus continues to develop in one of motorsport’s most competitive categories, his mindset reflects a clear understanding of what it takes to succeed. By focusing on consistency, execution and long-term growth, he positions himself to navigate the challenges of GT racing.

In a championship defined by fine margins, this balanced and disciplined approach may ultimately prove decisive in shaping both his results and his legacy.
