Jake Dennis’s title fight came to an end in dramatic fashion at London E-Prix, with the Andretti driver finishing runner-up to Pascal Wehrlein in the 2025/26 Formula E Drivers’ Championship.
He entered the London finale as one of the leading contenders for the title. However, contact during the final race ended his hopes of securing a second Formula E championship. Dennis now looks ahead to a new chapter. In fact, Nissan will replace Porsche as Andretti’s manufacturer, with the championship preparing to enter the Gen4 era.
Dennis had arrived at London season finale leading the Drivers’ standings after finishing on the podium in both Tokyo races. However, Wehrlein overturned the deficit by winning Saturday’s opening London E-Prix. It left the Porsche driver five points ahead heading into the final race.
Jake Dennis reflects on dramatic title fight ending
Dennis fought his way towards the front during the final race as he attempted to overturn Wehrlein’s advantage. However, his title challenge ultimately ended after contact during the late stages of the race.
Speaking after the last Gen3Evo appearance, Jake Dennis said the title fight had a secured outcome once he and Wehrlein reached a position where the title could be decided on track.
“It unravelled pretty quickly when we got into position to become world champion, unfortunately. Obviously I was racing Pascal and when you’re behind on points, the leader obviously has the opportunity to take you out of the race and that’s what happened today.”
Dennis acknowledged that the results was disappointing but accepted that the championship had ultimately been decided on track.
“So yeah, a bit of a shame to see. I mean, from his point of view, he’s obviously going to take me out. It’s quite clear. So yeah, I don’t think anyone really wanted to see it end like that, but it is what it is.”
The result left Dennis second in the Drivers’ Championship, with Wehrlein securing his second Formula E title.
Dennis looks back on successful Gen3 era
Despite the disappointment losing the title fight, Dennis looked back positively on his time competing with Formula E’s Gen3 machinery.
The Briton described the era as exceptionally successful, highlighting the wins and podium finishes he accumulated during the generation.
“Super positive. We’ve had a really strong Gen 3 era, probably one of the most successful drivers that has been in it with all the wins, podiums and whatnot. So I can only be proud of my guys for that.”
Dennis also credited the Andretti team for its efforts to improve the car, particularly during final 18 months of Gen3 era.
“They’ve made a better car where we sort of fell off the ball a little bit. So I’m confident that we can have a good car mechanically next year.”
Dennis’s record during the era includes two Formula E race wins in London, while his wider career has produced multiple victories and podiums. Formula E previously noted that he has won both of his London home races, in Seasons 7 and 8.
Jake Dennis prepares for Nissan Gen4 challenge
The end of Gen3 era will also bring significant change for Dennis, with Andretti moving to Nissan powertrains for Gen4.
The British driver admitted that there remains uncertainty over how competitive Nissan’s new powertrain will be, but expressed confidence in the collaboration between the two sides.
“Obviously it’s now just depending on Nissan of how good their powertrain is. Ultimately, we have no idea yet,” Dennis said.
“But I’m confident that we can try and work together as a team and collaborate well with Nissan to at least, you know, make it as quick as we possibly can.”
Andretti announced its move to Nissan powertrains ahead of the Gen4 era, with the new generation set to mark a significant technological step for Formula E. Nissan has been involved in the championship since Season 5 and brings extensive experience in electric powertrain development.
For Dennis, the challenge will now be to carry his experience from the Gen3 era into a new technical cycle.
Dennis looks ahead after title fight
With the Gen3 era now complete, Dennis heads into the next chapter of his Formula E career as a championship runner-up, Nissan powertrains await at Andretti and a new generation of cars prepares to take to the track.
For the Briton, however, the disappointment of losing the title does little to diminish what he achieved during Gen3 as he will now look to build on that success when Formula E enters its new era.
