In FP1, Charles Leclerc led Lewis Hamilton as Ferrari started the weekend very strongly. Max Verstappen was ahead of the Mercedes duo. Isack Hadjar and Fernando Alonso had crashes, bringing out two red flags in the opening hour of this event.

Green flag

A rather slow George Russell logged a 1:22.176 to start things off as the Mercedes man looked to get the tyres in the window. Everyone was on mediums, aside from the Astons on softs.

Max Verstappen clocked a 1:15.933 early doors as he put 1.078s into the field. However, Lewis Hamilton hammered that soon after as he posted a 1:14.306. Leclerc then beat it by 0.066s thanks to a purple final sector.

Valtteri Bottas locked up at the chicane. George Russell had a huge moment in the Swimming Pool section but survived. Liam Lawson grazed the wall on the exit of turn 16.

As the 10-minute mark approached, Kimi Antonelli slotted between the Ferraris, ending up 0.016s away from the home hero. George Russell moved up to 4th.

After a small improvement from Leclerc by 0.017s, Max Verstappen clocked a 1:14.008 to be 0.167s clear. Antonelli, Hamilton and Russell completed the top 5.

Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time of the day to this point as a 1:13.729 put him 0.276s clear of Verstappen.

Running in P8, Lando Norris conked to a stop in the Nouvelle Chicane run-off as his McLaren broke down. It was seemingly a battery issue.

Under the VSC to clear car #1, Hamilton led Verstappen, Leclerc, Antonelli, Russell, Piastri, Hülkenberg, Norris, Bearman and Sainz.

Once the action resumed, Ferrari continued to pace the field. A 1:13.613 from Charles Leclerc saw him outpace Lewis Hamilton by 0.058s. That was despite getting in a bit hot at the Nouvelle Chicane.

Softs appear

Four-time World Champion Max Verstappen logged a 1:13.467 on the red sidewall tyre to go P1, while Lewis Hamilton got within 0.082s on used mediums. George Russell then split them as he ended up 0.048s behind.

When the Ferrari duo switched to the softs, they continued to pace the field. Lewis Hamilton did a 1:13.026 to take top spot, 0.111s ahead of Leclerc. Max Verstappen was just over half a tenth behind his karting rival. Mercedes were clearly a step behind, finishing up 0.3s and 0.5 away. McLaren looked closer to the midfield than the top 5.

Down at turn 1, Franco Colapinto locked up and clipped the wall with his left hand side tyres but continued on. Oscar Piastri (wall) and Lance Stroll (strange lock-ups) also had moments.

After his shunt in FP1, Isack Hadjar had a solid recovery to end up in 6th position in the session.

Hamilton, Leclerc, Verstappen, Russell, Antonelli, Hadjar, Piastri, Hülkenberg, Bortoleto and Bearman was the top 10 after the qualifying simulations.
