Barcelona marked the third round of the 2026 FIA Formula 3 (F3) season, and the Spanish circuit once again delivered plenty of drama across both races.

The weekend featured maiden victories, championship momentum swings and impressive home performances, while others left Spain wondering what might have been after costly penalties, collisions and disappointing results.

With the title fight tightening and every point becoming increasingly valuable, we take a look at the biggest winners and losers from the 2026 Barcelona F3 round.

Winners of the 2026 F3 Barcelona Round

Théophile Naël – Campos Racing

It was only a matter of time before Théophile Naël claimed his long-awaited Formula 3 victory, and the Frenchman finally delivered with a commanding lights-to-flag win in the Feature Race at Barcelona.

After securing pole position at all three rounds so far in 2026, Melbourne, Monaco and Barcelona, Naël was finally able to convert his qualifying pace into victory, maintaining the lead at lights out and controlling the race from the front without incident or penalty.

His success wasn’t limited to Sunday either, with a strong points haul across both the Sprint and Feature Races propelling him to second in the Drivers’ Championship standings. He now sits just six points behind championship leader Ugo Ugochukwu.

Having more than doubled his points tally during the Barcelona weekend and emerged as the highest-scoring driver of the round, Naël leaves Spain with significant momentum and firmly establishes himself as one of the standout performers of the weekend.

Bruno del Pino – Van Amersfoort Racing

Bruno del Pino continues to be one of the most consistent performers in the 2026 F3 season, leaving Barcelona as the only driver to have scored points in all six races held so far this year.

Racing on home soil, the Spaniard delivered another strong weekend, qualifying sixth before converting that pace into sixth-place finishes in both the Sprint and Feature Races. While he narrowly missed out on a podium challenge, his ability to consistently collect points has become a defining feature of his campaign.

Del Pino’s reliable performances have kept him firmly in championship contention. He currently sits third in the Drivers’ Standings with 48 points, just 10 behind championship leader Ugochukwu.

Although others may have grabbed the headlines in Barcelona, del Pino once again demonstrated the value of consistency. A strong weekend in front of his home crowd ensured he remained firmly in the title fight heading to Austria.

Hiyu Yamakoshi – Van Amersfoort Racing

Hiyu Yamakoshi responded in the best possible way to the disappointment of Monaco, where he was stripped of what would have been his maiden F3 victory in the Sprint Race.

The Japanese driver arrived in Barcelona determined to bounce back, and he did exactly that with a superb drive to second place in the Feature Race. Starting from third on the grid, Yamakoshi made a strong getaway and quickly established himself as the closest challenger to polesitter Naël.

Throughout the race, Yamakoshi remained within striking distance of the race leader and looked to apply pressure during the opening stages, but Naël’s pace at the front proved difficult to match. As the race settled into its rhythm, Yamakoshi focused on managing the gap behind while keeping himself in contention should an opportunity arise.

Although he was unable to challenge for the victory in the closing laps, second place represented an important result following the heartbreak of Monaco. The podium finish allowed Yamakoshi to turn a frustrating chapter into a positive one, proving he has the pace to consistently fight at the front of the field.

After leaving Monaco empty-handed despite crossing the line first, Barcelona’s Feature Race podium felt like a deserved reward for the Japanese driver’s resilience and a strong comeback weekend.

James Wharton – PREMA Racing

James Wharton has endured an unfortunate start to his 2026 F3 campaign, with a string of incidents and misfortune threatening to carry over from his rookie season in the series. However, after difficult weekends in Melbourne and Monaco, the Australian finally broke through in Barcelona, securing his first points of the year with a Sprint Race victory.

At his home round in Melbourne, Wharton looked set to score valuable points in the Sprint Race before a collision with PREMA Racing teammate Louis Sharp eliminated both drivers and effectively ended their weekends.

Barcelona provided a much-needed turnaround. After qualifying 11th on Friday, Wharton lined up near the front for the reversed-grid Sprint Race. On Lap 3, he made a decisive move on Xie to take the lead and never looked back, controlling the race from the front to claim his first F3 victory in 2026 and open his points account in style.

Ugo Ugochukwu – Campos Racing

Ugo Ugochukwu’s Barcelona weekend featured both disappointment and recovery, but the American still leaves Spain as the FIA Formula 3 championship leader.

After retiring from the Sprint Race when he ran wide and became stuck in the gravel, Ugochukwu bounced back with a strong drive in Sunday’s Feature Race. His P3 finish helped him limit the damage to his title rivals and maintain his advantage at the top of the standings.

While Naël closed the gap with his victory, Ugochukwu’s resilience ensured he remains the championship leader heading into the next round, holding a six-point advantage in an increasingly competitive title fight.

Losers of the 2026 F3 Barcelona Round

Nicola Lacorte – DAMS Lucas Oil

Nicola Lacorte endured a difficult Barcelona weekend, with penalties and a retirement preventing the Italian from making progress across either race.

In the Sprint Race, Lacorte received a five-second time penalty for a false start after failing to move away from his original grid position of 16th before the start procedure was completed. The penalty further hampered his chances of moving forward through the field.

Sunday brought even greater disappointment. During the Feature Race, Lacorte’s race ended prematurely following a collision with DAMS Lucas Oil teammate Nandhavud Bhirombhakdi, resulting in a retirement for the Italian.

Matteo De Palo – TRIDENT

Matteo De Palo’s difficult start to the 2026 season continued in Barcelona, with the Italian enduring another frustrating weekend that failed to halt his run of bad luck.

His Sprint Race was compromised by a procedural infringement before the race had even begun. De Palo incorrectly lined up in the vacant grid position that should have been occupied by Maciej Gładysz, an offence that ordinarily carries a drive-through penalty. However, because the infringement was only investigated after the race, the penalty was converted into a 20-second time penalty, dropping him further down the order.

For a driver who has already faced a challenging opening phase to the season, Barcelona offered little relief. Another penalty and a lack of competitive results ensured De Palo left Spain still searching for the breakthrough that could finally get his campaign back on track.

Christian Ho – Rodin Motorsport

Barcelona proved to be a weekend to forget for Christian Ho, with the Singaporean driver unable to find the pace or results needed to challenge further up the field.

After qualifying 21st, Ho faced an uphill battle from the outset. His Sprint Race became even more complicated when he was handed a drive-through penalty for lining up in the wrong grid position, having occupied the vacant spot intended for Matteo De Palo, and an additional 5-second penalty for a false start. The penalty was later converted into a 20-second time penalty, and a further 10-second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage at Turn 1 dropped him to 26th in the final classification.

The latter incident came as Barrichello attempted a move up the inside into Turn 1. While defending his position, Ho ran off the circuit and remained ahead, resulting in the stewards deeming that he had gained an advantage.

Sunday’s Feature Race offered little opportunity for redemption. Starting from the lower reaches of the grid, Ho suffered a slow launch off the line and struggled to make progress through the field, eventually finishing 28th.

Woohyun Shin – Hitech

Woohyun Shin’s Barcelona weekend ended on a disappointing note, with the Korean driver receiving a penalty following a collision in the Feature Race.

Running outside of the points and struggling to make significant progress through the field, Shin’s race became even more difficult when he made contact with Yevan David approaching Turn 5. Attempting to follow closely through the corner, Shin collided with the rear of David’s car at the apex, prompting an investigation from the stewards.

After reviewing the incident, the stewards deemed Shin wholly responsible for the collision, handing him a 10-second time penalty and two penalty points on his licence. While the penalty had little impact on his final points tally given he was already running outside the top 10, it capped off a frustrating weekend in which the Korean driver was unable to challenge for championship points.
