Deagen Fairclough hopes to put a frustrating opening half of the 2026 GB3 Championship season behind him when the series returns to Silverstone.
The Hitech driver has regularly displayed front-running speed throughout his second GB3 campaign. However, collisions, mechanical trouble and penalties have prevented him from turning that pace into consistent results.
Fairclough now sits 10th in the drivers’ standings after retiring from six of the opening 11 races. Nevertheless, he remains determined to begin a recovery at a circuit where he and Hitech have already shown strong potential.
Misfortune overshadows Fairclough’s pace
Fairclough entered 2026 as one of the championship’s leading contenders after finishing third in the drivers’ standings during his rookie season.
The Briton has maintained his qualifying form this year, securing a top-five starting position at all but one round. He also claimed victory in the opening Budapest race and demonstrated enough speed to compete towards the front on several other occasions.
However, circumstances outside his control have repeatedly interrupted his progress and left him well behind championship leader Nikita Bedrin.
“Motorsport can be cruel,” he said to GB3. “When it is out of your hands, and out of the team’s hands, it is what it is.”
Despite those setbacks, Fairclough continues to focus on his performances rather than the results that slipped away through misfortune.
Track limits undermine promising Austrian weekend
Fairclough again showed competitive pace during the most recent round at the Red Bull Ring.
He opened the weekend with a fourth-place finish in race one before crossing the line sixth in the second contest. However, several track-limits infringements brought penalties and dropped him to 17th in the final classification.
Although the outcome cost him another valuable points haul, Fairclough drew encouragement from Hitech’s pace in Austria.
“We’ve just got to take the positives where we can,” accepted Fairclough. “As a team, we know that we’ve got strong pace. It’s been tough against Rodin and VRD [because] they’ve been very fast everywhere.”
Rodin Motorsport and VRD Racing have set the benchmark during much of the opening half of the season. Even so, Fairclough believes Hitech possesses the speed to challenge both teams when he completes trouble-free races.
Fairclough refuses to dwell on setbacks
The difficult start has left Fairclough 10th in the championship and more than three times behind Bedrin’s points total.
However, Fairclough refuses to allow the standings or his retirement record to affect his approach. Instead, he aims to maximise every opportunity and deliver strong results whenever he reaches the chequered flag.
“I’m not dwelling on it too much,” he admitted. “I just try to have a strong result every time I get the car to the finish line.”
That mindset helped him recover from earlier disappointments and secure his first victory of the season in Budapest. Consequently, he will carry the same approach into the remaining rounds as he attempts to move back towards the front of the standings.
Silverstone offers chance for a fresh start
GB3 will begin the second half of its season at Silverstone in early August, returning to the venue that hosted the opening round.
Fairclough showed impressive speed throughout that weekend and claimed the Sunoco Fastest Driver of the Weekend Award. However, retirements in races two and three prevented him from converting his pace into a significant points return.
The Hitech driver now hopes his previous performance at the Home of British Motorsport will provide the foundation for a much stronger weekend.
“We’ve just got to keep our head up for Silverstone,” he said. “It’s a circuit that we are very strong at and one that I enjoy. I’m really looking forward to getting racing there and hopefully all the bad luck is out of the way in this first half of the season and we can finish with a good second half.”
With six races still to come after the halfway point, Fairclough retains time to improve his championship position. More importantly, Silverstone gives him an immediate opportunity to combine Hitech’s proven pace with the clean weekend that has frequently eluded him during 2026.
