Ferrari has confirmed a new multi-year contract extension for Nicklas Nielsen, securing the Danish driver’s future as an official Prancing Horse endurance racer.
The 29-year-old has formed part of Ferrari’s factory Hypercar line-up since the 499P made its FIA World Endurance Championship debut in 2023, sharing the #50 with Antonio Fuoco and Miguel Molina. Nielsen has also continued racing Ferrari GT machinery in several international championships, including the 296 GT3 Evo.
His relationship with the manufacturer stretches back considerably further. Nielsen first joined Ferrari competition through the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Europe, winning the championship in 2018 before developing into one of the marque’s most established endurance drivers. Across 110 Ferrari starts, he has accumulated five overall victories, 17 class wins, 22 overall podiums and 42 class podium finishes.
Nielsen secures latest multi-year Ferrari extension
The new agreement ensures Nielsen will remain part of Ferrari’s factory endurance structure as the manufacturer continues building around the successful 499P programme.
Ferrari Global Head of Endurance and Corse Clienti Antonello Coletta highlighted Nielsen’s long-standing relationship with the marque and his progression from Ferrari Challenge into its leading international racing programmes.

He is a driver who grew up within the Prancing Horse family and, since winning the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Europe in 2018, has been central to numerous race wins and titles with both GT3 cars and the 499P, in which he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2024. Nicklas is a young, reliable and professional driver, and one of the pillars of our endurance programme. This contract renewal is simply the latest milestone in his career, and we are confident that his future results will be every bit as significant as those he has already achieved.”
Ferrari has not disclosed the exact duration of Nielsen’s renewed contract, describing the agreement only as multi-year.
Ferrari career began with Challenge title
Nielsen’s relationship with Ferrari began before his move into top-level endurance racing.
He won the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Europe championship in 2018 and subsequently progressed into the manufacturer’s GT racing structure. That pathway eventually established him across several international series before Ferrari selected him for its return to the top class of WEC.
Since 2018, Nielsen has accumulated 110 starts in Ferrari machinery. His record includes five overall victories and 17 class wins, alongside 22 overall podium finishes and 42 class podiums.
That combination of experience across customer racing, GT competition and Hypercar machinery makes him one of the longest-serving drivers within Ferrari’s current endurance roster.
Nielsen has shared #50 Ferrari since 499P debut
Ferrari selected Nielsen alongside Fuoco and Molina when the 499P entered WEC’s Hypercar category in 2023.
The trio has remained together in the #50 throughout the programme, giving Ferrari continuity within one of its two factory crews while the manufacturer developed the 499P into a race and championship-winning package.
Their partnership has produced three overall WEC victories and 13 overall podiums, with the most recent success arriving at the 2026 Lone Star Le Mans at the Circuit of The Americas.
That victory came after Toyota’s #7 suffered a late technical problem while leading, allowing Nielsen to bring the #50 Ferrari home first alongside Fuoco and Molina. The result gave the trio its first win of the 2026 season and strengthened Ferrari’s position in the championship fight.
2024 Le Mans victory remains career highlight
Nielsen’s most significant result with the #50 came at the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Together with Fuoco and Molina, he delivered Ferrari’s second consecutive outright victory at the French endurance classic following the manufacturer’s successful return to the top category one year earlier.
The result placed Nielsen among the relatively small group of Danish drivers to have won Le Mans outright and established the #50 crew as one of Ferrari’s leading Hypercar combinations.
His WEC success also extends beyond individual race victories. In 2025, Nielsen helped Ferrari secure the World Manufacturers’ Championship while finishing third in the World Drivers’ Championship with Fuoco and Molina.
Those results added another major title to a career already shaped by success across several endurance categories.
Nielsen’s WEC record stretches back beyond Hypercar era
Although his most prominent WEC achievements have come with the 499P, Nielsen built a strong championship record before Ferrari returned to the top prototype class.
Including his seasons in GT machinery, he has accumulated 13 WEC victories and 26 podium finishes.
He also won the FIA Endurance Trophy for LMGTE Am drivers twice, taking the title in the 2019–20 season and again in 2021. Those campaigns helped establish him as one of Ferrari’s leading young endurance specialists before his eventual promotion into Hypercar.
Outside WEC, Nielsen also won the European Le Mans Series LMGTE title in 2019 and the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup in 2021.
His record therefore spans Ferrari Challenge, GT racing and prototype competition rather than being built solely around the manufacturer’s current Hypercar programme.
Nielsen describes renewal as natural continuation
Nielsen sees the extension as a natural continuation of a relationship that has shaped much of his professional racing career.
“I am delighted with this renewal, which is very special to me and, in some respects, feels like a natural step, because I began my racing career with Ferrari. It is an honour to continue on this path representing the Prancing Horse. I would like to thank Ferrari and Antonello Coletta for the trust they have shown in me. My goals for the future? They remain unchanged: to keep improving as a driver and to achieve many more race wins together with my teammates.”
The agreement gives Nielsen the opportunity to continue alongside a manufacturer with which he has already secured victories and titles across several categories.
It also maintains the continuity of the #50 line-up, which has remained unchanged since Ferrari returned to WEC’s premier class.
Ferrari continues securing core endurance drivers
Nielsen’s renewal forms part of Ferrari’s wider effort to retain the drivers who have helped establish the 499P programme at the front of WEC.
His new agreement follows contract extensions for other members of Ferrari’s endurance roster, including Yifei Ye, who has developed into another key part of the manufacturer’s Hypercar structure.
For Ferrari, keeping Nielsen provides continuity within a #50 crew that has already won Le Mans, contributed to a Manufacturers’ world title and added another WEC victory at COTA in 2026.
For Nielsen, the contract extends a relationship that began with Ferrari Challenge eight years ago and has since taken him to the top level of international endurance racing.
With his future secured on a multi-year basis, Nielsen will now look to add further Hypercar victories and championship success to a Ferrari career that already includes more than 100 starts, a Le Mans triumph and multiple international titles.
