Ford Racing has offered the first taste of its future Hypercar programme, releasing a short teaser that gives endurance racing fans their first listen to the car’s naturally aspirated 5.4-litre V8.

The American manufacturer chose July 4, 2026, the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence, to share the brief clip across its social media channels. Although Ford kept the car almost completely hidden beneath a black cover, the message came through clearly. Its Hypercar project has found its voice.

The teaser marks another important step towards Ford’s return to the top category at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2027.

Ford keeps Hypercar design under wraps

Ford revealed very little in the video, but the few visible details still offered early clues about the car’s shape.

Beneath the cover, the prototype showed a low and sharp front profile, suggesting an aggressive aerodynamic philosophy. A small opening near the side window also exposed part of a blue-and-white camouflage livery, giving fans a glimpse of its development colours.

At the rear, the covered bodywork hinted at pronounced wheel arches and a compact, purposeful stance. However, Ford clearly intends to keep the full design hidden for now as the programme moves towards its next phase.

5.4-litre V8 provides first major clue

While Ford protected the car’s appearance, it placed the engine note at the centre of the teaser.

The naturally aspirated 5.4-litre V8 delivered a deep, raw soundtrack, offering the first real indication of the Hypercar’s character. Ford draws the engine’s architecture from the platform already used in its Dark Horse R, GT4 and GT3 racing programmes.

That approach gives the manufacturer a proven racing foundation as it develops its new top-class endurance contender. Moreover, the decision to showcase the sound before the full car creates a clear identity for the project before testing begins.

Track testing set to begin in August

The teaser arrives shortly after Ford confirmed the first drivers for its Hypercar programme during the latest edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Next, Ford will move into on-track testing. The manufacturer plans to begin running the car in August at several European circuits, where engineers will focus on performance, reliability and system integration.

That development phase will carry major importance. Importantly, Ford must validate the prototype’s aerodynamics, refine the hybrid system, understand tyre behaviour and prepare the package for the demands of long-distance racing.

Ford prepares for a major Hypercar battle

Ford will enter one of endurance racing’s most competitive eras when it joins the Hypercar field in 2027.

The manufacturer will line up against major rivals including Aston Martin, BMW, Cadillac, Ferrari, Genesis, McLaren, Peugeot and Toyota. Each brand brings its own technical direction, racing history and identity to the FIA WEC’s top class.

For Ford, the project also carries deep Le Mans significance. Its return to the top category adds another chapter to the company’s endurance racing story, and the first sound of its V8 has now made that comeback feel closer.

A first roar before the real work begins

Ford has not revealed the full car yet, and many details remain hidden. However, the first start-up has already created momentum around the programme.

The short teaser gave fans only a covered silhouette and a few seconds of engine note. Still, that was enough to signal intent. As testing approaches and the 2027 24 Hours of Le Mans draws nearer, Ford’s new Hypercar has already made its first impression.
