Rain shaped Sunday morning at the 2026 Formula E Shanghai E-Prix, as DS Penske’s Taylor Barnard topped a wet FP3 session ahead of Porsche Formula E Team’s Pascal Wehrlein and Andretti Formula E Team’s Felipe Drugovic.
With more rain threatening later running, drivers focused on setting banker laps in case Qualifying could not proceed.
Mahindra Racing’s de Vries set the first representative benchmark with a 1:22.132, before Envision Racing’s Sébastien Buemi moved ahead by 0.075s. Lola Yamaha ABT Formula E Team’s Zane Maloney briefly ran near the front, but Porsche Formula E Team’s Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller soon pushed him down the order. Citroën Racing’s Jean-Éric Vergne then went fastest with a 1:20.721, while Andretti Formula E Team’s Jake Dennis stayed in the garage as repairs continued. As conditions remained slippery, several drivers locked up and ran wide, although they avoided the barriers. Drugovich later topped the times before most teams returned to the pits for set-up changes.
In the closing minutes, Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans briefly led with a 1:18.704, before de Vries improved to a 1:18.015. However, Barnard then broke into the 1:17s with a 1:17.548. Jaguar TCS Racing’s António Félix da Costa and Mahindra Racing’s Edoardo Mortara also improved late on, but Wehrlein jumped to second, ahead of Drugovic in P3 after the chequered flag.
