Formula E drivers are ready to get on track again in Shanghai for FP2. The session was shortened to half an hour and will start earlier than scheduled due to the extreme weather conditions affecting the Chinese track.
Formula E goes green with FP2 in Shanghai!
Eriksson set the earliest benchmark in 1:18.93, from Vergne and Ticktum. The Citroen man was then the first to set a more representative time in 1:15.10. The weather is currently sunny, much less damp than FP1.
Ticktum led the session ten minutes from the start, with Dennis moving the benchmark to 1:09.070 at the halfway point of the session. He leads from Eriksson, Vergne, championship leader Evans and almost podium finisher Drugovich.
Rowland managed to get additional track time following a no-show FP1. In fact, the reigning champion had only completed one out lap, lamenting lack of grip and brake issues, as Nissan ultimately spent the session working on his challenger.
Later on, Mortara went fastest with 12 minutes to spare, as most of the drivers returned into the pits for final setup tweaks. However, the Italian-Swiss driver lamented lack of feeling towards the end of the session, citing brake issues as well.
In the final moments of the session, Da Costa split the previous top two of Mortara and Dennis, sett8ng a lap time 0.039 slower than the Mahindra man but only 0.010s faster than the Sanya E-Prix winner
Ultimately, the brief track time definitely has provided several drivers with elements to work on ahead of Qualiying. It was a smooth session, without any yellow or red flag, which allowed to get to grips with the completely different track conditions and grip
