Fred Green continued his commanding start to the 2026 GB4 Championship season with a second victory of the weekend at Silverstone. Despite multiple interruptions and a shortened race distance, the Elite Motorsport driver once again demonstrated control and composure at the front.

However, while the result underlined his dominance, the nature of the race presented a different challenge compared to the opener. Safety Car periods disrupted the rhythm, forcing Green to carefully manage both tyres and pace. As a result, his approach evolved across the race.

At the start, Green adopted a measured approach as he dealt with fresh tyres under tricky conditions. Rather than pushing immediately, he focused on maintaining control and avoiding unnecessary risks.

“Yeah, we had our two new tyres on then, so I was a bit cautious,” he said in his post-race trackside interview with GB4. “Obviously, I didn’t want to make a mistake when they were cold. The first opening laps, I was sort of taking it easy, and then the Safety Car came out, which allowed me to warm them back up. Obviously, the pace looked mega when we got back going, and then, obviously, it went Safety Car again, which is a shame.”

Consequently, the repeated interruptions prevented Green from fully exploiting his pace. Even so, he remained firmly in control whenever racing resumed.

Progress between races boosts confidence

Beyond the immediate result, Green highlighted clear progress in car setup between Race 1 and Race 2. That development has strengthened his confidence heading into the remainder of the weekend.

“Yeah, I think we developed the car well from Race 1 to 2 for the old tyres, so I think we’re in a really good place. I’m so excited to go from 12th in the next one and see what we can achieve.”

Therefore, despite starting further down the grid in the next race, Green believes he has the tools to fight back through the field.

Fresh tyres offer strategic advantage as focus turns to charge from 12th

In addition, Green emphasised the advantage of carrying lightly used tyres into the next race. With limited racing laps on them, he expects to benefit from both performance and consistency.

“Yeah, for sure,” he said when asked about a potential tyre advantage. “To be honest, I don’t think it could have panned out much better for us. Yeah, obviously, we’ve got the fresh tyres, which are already scrubbed, so, I think we’ll be one to watch, so I’m looking forward to it.”

This strategic edge could prove decisive, particularly in the opening laps where tyre performance often shapes early gains.

Looking ahead, Green acknowledged the challenge of breaking into a competitive top ten. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic about making significant progress if he executes a strong start.

“I’m hoping, yeah. Obviously, the top ten are a bit more competitive than the rest of the field, but if we get a good launch and make the most of the first few laps, we’ll be in a good place, maybe even a podium.”

Ultimately, with momentum firmly on his side, Green enters the next race as a clear contender to watch.
