Second practice for Round 10 of the 2025 IndyCar season at Mid-Ohio is in the books, view the full FP2 report and results below.
A very chaotic FP1 saw Kyle Kirkwood ahead of Pato O’Ward and championship leader Alex Palou. There was plenty of spins and crashes for others, however.
Second practice took place under beautiful morning skies as drivers got ready for qualifying later in the day.
RLL came out of the traps very well. A 1:06.664 from Louis Foster saw him lead Scott Dixon by a second. The Brit’s teammate Devlin DeFrancesco was a tenth behind the Kiwi. Rasmussen and VeeKay completed the top 5.
With cars backing up before the start of a new lap, Santino Ferrucci lost his head and passed a few at high speeds, very nearly making contact with Josef Newgarden.
At the 10-minute mark, Pato O’Ward logged a 1:06.096 to lead teammate Christian Lundgaard by less than a tenth. McLaughlin, Newgarden and Foster completed the top 5. Palou was in 7th.
Despite a brief excursion in the dirt at turn 4, a 1:05.552 put Christian Lundgaard on top by almost half a second from his fellow Dane Rasmussen. The ECR driver had his own moment with Robert Shwartzman as the PREMA driver made slight contact out of frustration before turn 6.
Alex Rossi was incredibly lucky not to have a crash as he had a big scare at turn 1. He ran wide, got on the dirt but did an amazing job to avoid spinning.
A crash for Marcus Ericsson
A red flag did appear with 21 minutes left. Marcus Ericsson had a crash. He lost the rear through the last corner and went straight to the barrier. He broke his front wing and got stuck in the gravel.
Behind the Danes, Newgarden, Ericsson, Siegel, O’Ward, Palou, Ilott, Malukas and Rossi rounded out the top 10 with 15 minutes left. Kirkwood 11th, Dixon 14th, Rosenqvist 24th and Herta in 27th were some of the big names looking for more.
There was another near miss as Will Power had to do some grass cutting to avoid a slow moving ECR car.
Down at turn 4, Colton Herta lost the car on entry and took a trip through the gravel. He continued. Scott McLaughlin was next to lose the car over the bump on entry, lost the rear and went through the gravel.
Almost inevitably, Alex Palou moved to the top of the charts. A 1:05.396 from the Spaniard put him over a tenth ahead of Lundgaard. A couple of seconds after doing that, he took a trip through the grass at turn 10 but no damage was done. Rosenqvist and Herta made big moves, going P5 and P6 with 5 minutes remaining.
Right at the end of it, Nolan Siegel had a big scare. After putting his left hand rear tyre on the dirt outside the turn 4 kerb, the car almost spat him into the barriers on the outside of turn 5 as he ended up on the grass.
In the end, Palou led Lundgaard and the hugely impressive Louis Foster. O’Ward, Rosenqvist, Herta, Dixon, Simpson, Kirkwood and Rasmussen completed the top 10.
