Thomas Ingram Hill heads into the 2026 GB4 season finale confident of fighting at the front after demonstrating strong pace around Brands Hatch throughout the year.
The Fortec Motorsports driver remains one of five mathematical Drivers’ Championship contenders, although he faces the most difficult task of the group. Ingram Hill enters the final three races fifth on 277 points, 96 behind championship leader Alex O’Grady, with only 102 still available.
His championship position leaves almost no margin for O’Grady to score, but Ingram Hill can take considerable encouragement from his recent pace. He topped the Brands Hatch test earlier this month and has regularly run towards the front at the Kent circuit.
Slim championship hopes remain
Ingram Hill sits behind O’Grady, Fred Green, Dayton Coulthard and Enzo Hallman in the standings ahead of the finale. Although all five remain mathematically capable of becoming champion, the Fortec driver needs an extraordinary combination of results to overturn his 96-point deficit.
Only six points separate his current disadvantage from the maximum available during the weekend. Consequently, Ingram Hill requires a near-perfect points haul while O’Grady scores very little. According to the championship permutations, a 14th-place finish or better for O’Grady in Race 1 would already eliminate Ingram Hill from title contention.
Nevertheless, the 17-year-old has not completely dismissed the possibility before the weekend begins.
“A slim chance of the title, but you never say never,” he said to GB4. “We could definitely have been better off in the championship.”
Even if the overall title moves beyond reach, Ingram Hill remains firmly involved in another significant championship battle. Coulthard sits third with 290 points, only 13 ahead, while Hallman holds fourth on 281, giving Ingram Hill only four points to recover to move ahead of the Hillspeed driver.
Ingram Hill sets Brands Hatch testing benchmark
Recent testing suggests Ingram Hill has the pace to make substantial gains during the final round.
The Fortec driver topped the combined classification when GB4 completed its only in-season test on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit on 10 September. His 1m24.922s lap made him the only driver to break into the 1m24s and placed him 0.205s clear of Green. O’Grady followed another 0.026s behind in third.
The Brands Hatch testing results highlighted the closeness of the championship contenders behind him, but Ingram Hill ultimately enjoyed a comparatively comfortable margin at the top. All five drivers who remain mathematically capable of winning the title finished inside the top nine.
His outright benchmark came during the final session after traffic and minor mistakes prevented him from fully exploiting the car earlier in the day.
“We knew we had the pace all day, it was just extracting it,” said Ingram Hill. “We had some traffic and made some silly mistakes, so I knew, in the last session, I had to get it done.”
That final run delivered the improvement he needed and left Fortec at the head of the order going into the two-week break before the championship returned for its decisive race weekend.
Brands Hatch has consistently suited Ingram Hill
The September test did not represent the first time Ingram Hill had demonstrated strong Brands Hatch pace.
He also topped two of the three sessions during pre-season running at the circuit, establishing himself among the quickest drivers before the championship had even begun. His performance during the most recent test therefore reinforced an already strong record around the Grand Prix layout rather than producing an unexpected breakthrough.
“Brands Hatch is one of my strongest tracks,” he said. “Last year was a bit annoying as we had a bad qualifying, but I think we can end the year with a good weekend and that’d be just what I need.”
Qualifying will carry particular importance this weekend. Drivers’ fastest laps determine the Race 1 grid, while their second-fastest efforts establish the starting order for Race 2. With 35 points available for victory in each of those contests, strong one-lap pace could give Ingram Hill an opportunity to convert his testing speed into his biggest points haul of the campaign.
The third race then uses the championship’s reverse-grid system, giving him another opportunity to score through both finishing position and places gained.
Lost opportunities leave Ingram Hill frustrated
Although Ingram Hill has regularly demonstrated front-running speed, he feels his championship position does not reflect the performance available throughout the season.
He enters Brands Hatch on a run of eight consecutive top-eight finishes and has established himself as one of the championship’s most consistent points scorers. However, several incidents and difficult weekends have prevented him from turning that consistency into a sustained title challenge.
“Not what I wanted [this season],” reflected Ingram Hill. “I’ve been taken out about three times, then I’ve had multiple things that have gone against me, like Donington with the track limits.
“It’s been a really questionable year so far. We could have been up for the title and now we are only scrapping for third in the championship.”
One of his most costly weekends came during GB4’s first visit to Donington Park. Ingram Hill had qualified second for Race 1 and third on the second-fastest times, but track-limits issues affected the weekend and restricted his eventual points return despite clear front-running pace.
He recovered from 15th to 11th in Race 1 at Donington, while further incidents limited his opportunities across the remainder of the meeting. Earlier Qualifying had shown what might have been possible, with Ingram Hill only 0.070s away from O’Grady’s Race 1 pole.
Silverstone collision proves costly
Another major setback followed during the championship’s second Silverstone visit.
Ingram Hill secured his maiden GB4 pole and started Race 1 alongside Green, but their races unravelled almost immediately. The pair made contact at Maggotts on the opening lap, damaging both cars and allowing Luke Hilton to inherit the lead.
Ingram Hill required a pit stop and fell out of contention, while Green initially continued without a front wing before also stopping for repairs. Hilton eventually claimed victory as both front-row starters lost the opportunity to score heavily in Race 1.
The weekend still demonstrated Ingram Hill’s pace. After starting the finale further down the reversed grid, he charged back through the order to finish third in Race 3, but the points lost in the opening contest proved significant as O’Grady continued building his championship total.
Those setbacks have contributed to the 96-point deficit Ingram Hill now faces despite regularly featuring among the championship’s quickest drivers.
Donington consistency fails to deliver podium
Ingram Hill maintained his run of consistent results when GB4 returned to Donington for the penultimate round, but once again left feeling that the results did not fully reflect his potential.
He finished sixth in Race 1, climbed to fifth during the second contest and completed the weekend with eighth in Race 3. All three results extended his top-eight streak, but none delivered the podium required to significantly reduce his championship deficit.
His latest Donington results therefore left him fifth in the standings while Coulthard and Hallman remained immediately ahead. Only 13 points cover the three drivers heading into Brands Hatch, making third place a realistic target even if Ingram Hill’s title challenge ends early in the weekend.
The Brands Hatch test has given him reason to believe he can produce a stronger conclusion.
Ingram Hill targets ‘bounce back’ finale
With the championship mathematics largely outside his control, Ingram Hill can approach Brands Hatch by concentrating on converting his established speed into victories and podiums.
A strong qualifying performance would immediately provide opportunities in both principal races, while his testing form suggests Fortec should begin the weekend with a competitive baseline. Ingram Hill also knows he has performed strongly around the circuit in several separate tests, reducing the uncertainty heading into the finale.
“I’m really confident,” he said. “I’ve got a great team behind me and great management group, so I just can’t wait for the weekend.”
The title requires an unlikely combination of circumstances, but Ingram Hill has several other objectives available. He can still challenge Coulthard and Hallman for third in the championship, chase his first victory of the season and end a campaign he believes contained too many missed opportunities with the result his pace has frequently suggested was possible.
After topping the final pre-event test by more than two tenths, Brands Hatch provides one final chance for Ingram Hill to turn that potential into a standout weekend.
