Kyuho Lee delivered a composed and promising performance in the opening race of the 2026 GB3 Championship at Silverstone. The Elite Motorsport driver secured a points finish in seventh place, meeting his primary objective for the race. However, while he showed consistency and control throughout the race, Lee remained focused on extracting more from both himself and the car as the weekend progresses.

Points finish meets initial target

Lee approached his first GB3 race with a clear and pragmatic goal. As a result, he prioritised a clean and controlled performance to ensure a solid foundation for the weekend.

“Yeah, obviously. I mean, my goal for the first race was to finish the race and score the points, so for that, I’m happy, but I think it could have been better.”

Although he achieved that objective, Lee acknowledged that further improvements remain possible, underlining his competitive mindset.

Lee building confidence in a higher-downforce car

Transitioning from karting to GB3 machinery presents a significant challenge. Nevertheless, Lee adapted quickly and demonstrated growing confidence, particularly during qualifying and high-speed sections of the circuit.

“Yeah, to be honest, I think for me, driving a car such a higher car like a GB3 gave me more confidence and more speed. You carry to the high speed, you get more stability. So that thing kind of seems like more [of a] fit for me.”

Therefore, the increased downforce and stability of the GB3 car appear to suit his driving style, allowing him to push with greater assurance.

In addition to adapting to the car, Lee also handled the demands of close racing effectively. Despite limited experience in this category, he showed composure in midfield battles during the race.

“Yeah, I mean, I’m always confident in the racing. There’s just a few things that I need to fine-tune a bit more, but other than that, I think it was a quite decent race.”

Consequently, his ability to remain calm under pressure contributed to a clean and productive debut outing.

Lee identifies clear targets for the remainder of the 2026 GB3 opening weekend at Silverstone

Looking ahead, Lee has already set his sights on further progress in the remaining races at Silverstone. With solid starting positions secured, he aims to convert potential into stronger results.

“I think we have another two races in a decent starting position, so I will try to maximise that and hopefully we can finish top five [or] podium, if it’s possible.”

Ultimately, Lee’s measured approach, combined with his growing confidence, positions him as a driver capable of climbing further up the order as the weekend unfolds.
