Martin Molnar secured his maiden GB3 pole position in front of his home crowd after topping the first 2026 Qualifying session at the Hungaroring on Saturday morning.

The Rodin Motorsport driver, who lives just half an hour from the circuit, delivered his breakthrough result at the perfect venue. Although he had already started from the front row at Silverstone earlier in the season, his first pole came at his home event and gave him the ideal platform for Race 1.

With the opening race scheduled for 13:30 local time, Molnar now has a clear opportunity to fight for his first GB3 victory.

Molnar thrilled to deliver at home in the 2026 GB3 Hungaroring Round

While speaking to GB3 after Qualifying, Molnar made no attempt to hide his satisfaction after securing pole at the Hungaroring. The Budapest resident had built towards the result throughout the event, and he admitted that claiming it in Hungary made the moment even more meaningful.

“I’m really happy that I could do it here,” he commented. “It was a great quali and I’m really happy with the result, I’m really excited for the race.”

The result marked an important step in Molnar’s season. He had already shown strong one-lap pace at Silverstone, where he qualified on the front row for the season opener. However, by taking pole at the Hungaroring, he converted that promise into a clear milestone.

Moreover, the timing of the result gives him added momentum. At a circuit where track position often carries major importance, pole places him in the strongest possible position for the first race of the weekend.

Rodin Motorsport driver builds from testing pace

Molnar had looked competitive before Qualifying. He placed third quickest in testing on Thursday and then again in the combined practice results on Friday. Therefore, he felt the pole came as the result of steady progress rather than a sudden step.

“We were getting better and better throughout the tests, and I knew that if we could make a step forward in qualifying we could get a good result. I’m really happy with how that qualifying went and I’m feeling really confident.”

That confidence could prove crucial heading into Race 1. Molnar and Rodin Motorsport had already established a strong baseline before Qualifying, and the final step allowed him to beat Hitech’s Deagen Fairclough and championship leader Nikita Bedrin to pole.

As a result, Molnar now enters the race with both speed and belief. He has the best track position, strong home support, and evidence that the team has moved in the right direction across the weekend.

Home crowd adds extra emotion to breakthrough pole

The Hungaroring crowd also played a clear role in the moment. More fans had gathered around the circuit as the weekend developed, and Molnar noticed the atmosphere while leaving the pit lane and heading onto the main straight.

“It was great coming out of the pit lane and going down the main straight and seeing all the people there [in the grandstands]. It’s a great feeling to do this in front of them.”

For Molnar, that support turned a maiden pole into a more personal achievement. He not only delivered his strongest GB3 Qualifying result, but he also did so in front of fans watching him at his local circuit.

In addition, the result gave the home crowd a clear contender to follow in Race 1. With Molnar starting from the front, the atmosphere around the main straight could grow further when the lights go out.

Molnar targets first GB3 victory from pole at 2026 Hungaroring round

Molnar has already shown that he can start strongly from the front row. At Silverstone, he launched well and led the field after the start. If he repeats that this afternoon, he will give himself a major chance to control the race from the front.

“I hope I can get a good start and hopefully deliver a win. That’s going to be my goal, and it should be a great race I think.”

His target remains clear. After claiming his first GB3 pole, Molnar now wants to convert it into his first victory in the championship.

However, he will still face immediate pressure from Fairclough and Bedrin. Both drivers showed strong pace throughout the weekend, and the long run towards Turn 1 could create an early challenge.

Even so, Molnar heads into Race 1 with momentum firmly on his side. He has delivered his breakthrough pole, energised the home crowd, and placed himself at the front of the field for one of the biggest races of his GB3 season.
