In one of the greatest partnerships ever seen in Motorsport, Chip Ganassi Racing have announced that Scott Dixon will be leaving the team at the end of the 2026 IndyCar season. It marks the end of a remarkable 24-year relationship between the team and driver.
The six-time IndyCar champion from New Zealand is heading for McLaren in 2027. Pato O’Ward will be one of his teammates, with Felix Rosenqvist likely to join as well. The 2026 Indy 500 winner previously raced with the team before his move to Meyer Shank Racing.
In his 25 seasons at Chip Ganassi Racing, Scott Dixon has won 58 races, six championships and an Indy 500 title in 2008. From 2005 through to 2025, he has won at least one race in every single season.
However, Alex Palou has been the dominant force inside CGR in recent years. The Spaniard has won four of the last five IndyCar championships, and he is leading the 2026 standings at present.
In a press release from the team, owner Chip Ganassi revealed they had offered Scott Dixon a new multi-year deal. The Kiwi decided on a fresh challenge, ultimately.

“Scott Dixon has recently informed the team that he will not be returning in 2027. Scott has meant so much to CGR over the past 24 years.
“Together we’ve shared championships, many victories, and countless moments that have helped define this organization. Because of everything we’ve accomplished together, and the legacy Scott has built here, we believed it was important to give him the opportunity to finish his career at Chip Ganassi Racing, and we made him a multi-year offer to do just that.
