PREMA Racing have confirmed that Louis Sharp will leave the team before the end of the 2026 Formula 3 (F3) season.

The team announced that both parties had jointly agreed that Sharp would not continue with PREMA for the remaining rounds of the campaign. According to PREMA, the decision was made mutually to allow the New Zealander to focus fully on his 2027 commitments.

Sharp joined PREMA for the 2026 F3 season, but his campaign has proved challenging in terms of results. With championship contention no longer realistic, both driver and team have agreed to part ways before the final rounds.

PREMA supports Sharp’s 2027 focus

PREMA Team Principal and CEO Stephen Mitas praised Sharp’s speed and contribution to the team, while confirming that PREMA understood his decision to shift focus towards next year.

“Louis has been a pleasure to have in the team this year and a top talent. His qualifying pace and raw speed were consistently strong, and he brought great energy to everyone around him at PREMA. We understand and support his focus on 2027, and we look forward to following his progress.”

Sharp thanks PREMA after difficult campaign

Sharp also thanked PREMA for its support during the season and explained why he felt the timing was right to concentrate on his future options.

“I want to thank Stephen, Swampy and everyone at PREMA for the season we’ve had together. It’s been a challenging year results-wise and, with championship contention no longer realistic, and as a result, it makes sense to direct my focus towards securing the right options for 2027. I’ve learnt a huge amount racing at this level, hold everyone in the team in high regard and I’m grateful for PREMA’s support of me and my family through this decision.”

Sharp’s departure leaves PREMA with a seat to fill for the remaining rounds of the 2026 FIA Formula 3 season. The team has not yet confirmed who will replace him.
