Williams have confirmed that Alex Albon will remain with the team into the 2027 F1 season.

The Thai’s journey with the Grove-based squad started back in 2022 when Jost Capito was in charge. Since James Vowles was appointed in 2023, the British engineer turned boss has shown tremendous faith in the abilities of the 30-year-old.

After comfortably outperforming Nicholas Latifi and Logan Sargeant from 2022 through to mid-2024, the former Red Bull driver first faced a challenge from impressive rookie Franco Colapinto in the latter part of that season.

A brilliant start in 2025 against Carlos Sainz, where Albon finished P5 on three occasions and scored points in seven of the first eight races, meant it looked like his stock was rising.

However, the four-time race winner has been utterly dominant since the Hungarian GP last year, significantly coming out on top in the head-to-head as the Thai has struggled a great deal with the 2026 regulations.

With Carlos Sainz confirmed on Wednesday on a multi-year deal to stay at Williams F1, the pressure is on Albon to step up and respond across the rest of 2026 and into 2027.

Alex Albon on staying at Williams for 2027 F1 season:

“Since joining Atlassian Williams F1 Team in 2022, the transformation this team has made is difficult to put into words. One tough year doesn’t tell the full picture, and it only gives me more motivation to keep building and pushing together with the factory and our fans to achieve great things. Our story is not over yet, so my full focus now is on doing whatever it takes to get us back up the grid.”

James Vowles, Team Principal:

“I am delighted that Alex and Atlassian Williams F1 Team are continuing our extraordinary journey together. Alex has been a leader of this transformation project since day one and we have plenty of unfinished business that we are determined to achieve. Alex is one of the best drivers on the grid and knows better than anyone the enormous improvements we have made in recent years – re-signing him shows the belief we both have in the direction we are heading.”
