Emmilio Valentino Del Grosso continues to build a clear and structured path through the junior motorsport ranks, combining on-track progression with a strong emphasis on physical and mental development. Having already experienced the intensity of European competition and the demands of transitioning into car racing, he approaches each step with a focus on long-term improvement rather than short-term results.
As he prepares for the next phase of his career in GB4, Del Grosso reflects on the key moments that have shaped him—from adapting to elite competition at a young age to refining his approach to training, racecraft, and consistency. His journey, which he discussed in an exclusive interview with Pit Debrief, highlights not only the technical demands of motorsport, but also the discipline required to perform at a high level across different categories.
An “eye-opening” 2024 season: Del Grosso on the earliest stages of his development in European competition
At just 14 years old, Del Grosso entered European competition—an environment widely recognised for its depth of talent and intensity. This transition marked a significant step up, forcing him to reassess his approach to racing almost immediately and confront a far higher level of performance than he had previously experienced.
“Yeah, so racing in the European competition was a really big step for my career. The level is extremely high, and it made me realise how important physical preparation was, because back then I only focused on driving. But now, I understand how much the body matters in that situation.”
As the season progressed, the scale of the challenge became even clearer, with each race exposing areas for improvement while simultaneously accelerating his development.
“Like I learned back then, if I compare myself to then and now, I wouldn’t be able to recognise myself because I’ve changed from day and night. I mean, it was an eye-opening season for me.”
This period of rapid growth reshaped his perspective, pushing him to adapt quickly and raise his standards across all areas of performance. In addition, he developed a deeper appreciation for the competitiveness throughout the field—not just at the front.
“And also, being able to compete at that high level, you can see the top drivers and they’re winning, but you see the top 20. The 20 to 30 — most people think that it’s easy, but trust me, it’s not. Those people are number one in their country; they could be really good in their home country.”
Ultimately, the experience reinforced the reality that success at this level demands not only talent, but complete preparation and consistency across every aspect of performance.
Key turning points in development
Amid the challenges, Del Grosso identified pivotal areas of improvement that would define his progression and development in motorsport. Developing rhythm and committing to physical preparation became central to his growth.
“And when I stepped in there, I came with no experience. I had one year, and it was insane. And the pivotal moments for me were getting that rhythm as a driver and learning to prepare my body physically.”
These adjustments laid the groundwork for the driver he would become in the seasons that followed. Now, looking back, Del Grosso takes particular pride in the progress he has made physically. What began as a weakness has become a defining strength in his overall performance.
“And I’m really proud I made that switch because now I’m absolutely a machine. So, that’s that — I’m really proud of it today.”

The Ginetta Junior Championship: Del Grosso on adapting to car racing
In 2025, Del Grosso stepped into the Ginetta Junior Championship, marking a crucial transition from karting to car racing. This shift introduced new technical complexities, particularly in how the car behaved under varying conditions.
“Yeah, so the Ginetta was a big challenge. It was a very capable car, of course, but because it runs on road tyres, it becomes extremely difficult to drive when they’re overheated. So, that really forced me to understand how to drive on the limit.”
As he adapted, Del Grosso placed increasing emphasis on racecraft and consistency—two elements essential for success in circuit racing. At the same time, he continued to push his physical limits, further strengthening an already evolving aspect of his performance.
“I also learned a lot of racecraft and consistency, and physically, I’ve pushed myself a lot at that point. Like I said, I literally ran a half marathon like two hours ago [before the interview], so I just love pushing myself to the limit.”
Crucially, the lessons learned during this period extended beyond a single championship. Instead, they became embedded in his overall approach as he prepared for the next stage of his career.
“Well, I carried this preparation for GB4, like absolutely being a machine — go work out and then do this and do that, food and all of this. It just carried on.”
While he developed across multiple areas, Del Grosso identified his physical preparation as the most significant element he has carried forward.
“I learned, like I said, a lot from racecraft and driving, but what I’m really most proud of is carrying forward the physical preparation.”

GB4: Refinement and focus key as Del Grosso prepares for the next stage of his career
As Del Grosso prepares for his 2026 GB4 campaign, he has already begun to identify and prioritise key areas for improvement. Among these, tyre preparation stands out as a central focus, requiring careful adaptation to new characteristics and behaviours compared to what he has previously experienced.
“So, for me, the main challenge so far has been tyre preparation. The tyres behave very differently compared to what I was used to. So, the key area I’m focusing on is tyre preparation and improving every day, little by little. So, for me, that’s my priority, and I honestly cannot wait to get started with the season.”
This emphasis on incremental improvement reflects a measured and detail-oriented approach, with Del Grosso aiming to build consistency through continuous refinement. At the same time, he remains equally focused on managing the broader demands of race weekends, which require sustained concentration, adaptability, and resilience.
“Yeah, so, like I really said, physically, I feel very prepared right now. I train a lot, so I know I can handle the car. Mentally, whenever I feel nervous or get this doubt, I keep it simple and I go for a run around the track. That helps me reset and stay focused on my goals.”
By combining strong physical conditioning with simple but effective mental strategies, he ensures that he remains focused, composed, and ready to perform under pressure. This balanced approach underlines his preparation for GB4, where both precision and consistency will be critical to his continued development.
From karting to GB4: A journey of continuous improvement
As Emmilio Valentino del Grosso continues his progression through the junior ranks, his journey reflects a clear commitment to development, discipline, and long-term performance. From adapting to the demands of European competition to refining his approach in car racing, each step has contributed to a more complete and focused driver.
With a strong foundation in both physical and technical preparation, Del Grosso approaches the GB4 season with clarity and intent—focused not only on results, but on continuous improvement at every level.
