MP Motorsport Team Principal Sander Dorsman praised Gabriele Minì after the Italian claimed 27 points at the 2026 F2 Miami GP, helping the team move up to P3 in the Teams’ Standings.
After qualifying P5, Minì took his first points of the weekend with a P7 finish in the reverse-grid Sprint Race. The Alpine-backed driver then got off to a strong start on Sunday, gaining a few positions on the opening lap of what turned out to be a “mental” Feature Race. Six drivers retired in wet conditions, while Roman Bilinski did not start due to technical issues.
Meanwhile, in the final stages of the race, Minì took part in a three-car battle for the lead against Rafael Câmara and Dino Beganovic, making his way up to P2 after the duo went wide. However, it wasn’t until the penultimate lap that he took the lead from Beganovic, securing a memorable maiden F2 victory.
Dorsman on Minì’s Miami win
Speaking after the 2026 F2 Miami GP weekend, Dorsman shared how thrilling it was to watch Minì from the pit wall during the Feature Race, as he said: “It was absolutely mental, wasn’t it? So many fights, changing conditions, so I guess for everybody in F2 it was a very exciting race to watch.”
“I think the last lap was when I processed that we could win. There was so much going on. I think Gabi did a really good job in the last couple laps actually, and he moved his way forward.”
“It was nice to see that fight for P1 with [Rafael] Câmara and [Dino] Beganovic, but when Gabi got in a mix, it was starting to get very exciting,” he added, before praising both his driver and the team for staying in control despite the difficult conditions.
“This race was a bit difficult to execute a plan. We were happy with how our plan unfolded. But, it was just amazing, especially the last lap, of course, everybody went crazy. So, well done to him and to the team.”
Looking ahead to Montreal
With this result, Minì has moved up to P2 in the Drivers’ Standings, tied on points with Câmara, while MP Motorsport now sits third, just 9 points behind Teams’ Standings leaders Campos Racing.
“We always hope to fight for the win and the championship as much as possible,” he shared. “And I think these kinds of races, it’s also important to stay out of trouble and maximise the points. And of course, Gabi did a great job today. I think he deserved the win.”
Round 3 of the 2026 F2 season will take place at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada. Despite it being another new venue for the championship, Dorsman explained that he expects the same level of competition among the teams.
“Now it’s onwards to Canada. Let’s hope it will be a repeat of a result like this. But we need to work hard for it because it was a new venue here for everybody, but it was already so competitive.”
He concluded: “So I think everybody did a great job. And I guess we can expect the same for Canada.”
