Mikkel Pedersen Racing will make its International GT Open debut at the GT Open 500 at Spa-Francorchamps, as the Danish squad begins a new chapter in GT3 competition.
The Struer-based organisation, founded and led by Mikkel O. Pedersen, has built its reputation through Porsche customer racing. Now, the team will move into a wider international arena with a brand-new Porsche 911 GT3R EVO entered in the Pro-Am class.
Pedersen already carries strong experience as a driver on the global stage, with appearances in the Porsche Supercup, FIA World Endurance Championship and GT World competition. However, this programme also marks an important step for his team, which has mainly focused on Porsche one-make championships and GT4 racing until now.
Four-round programme confirmed
Mikkel Pedersen Racing plans to contest four GT Open events this season. After its Spa debut, the team will also appear at Paul Ricard, Monza and Barcelona.
That schedule gives the Danish outfit a balanced introduction to GT3 racing. Spa and Monza will test the car’s high-speed performance, while Paul Ricard and Barcelona will offer different technical demands. As a result, the team should gain valuable experience across a range of circuits and race formats.
The squad will enter two sprint events and two endurance events, which should also help its young personnel learn how to manage different weekend structures.
Pedersen pair to share Pro-Am Porsche
Mikkel O. Pedersen will share driving duties with gentleman driver Lars Pedersen. Although the two drivers carry the same surname, they have no family connection.
Their pairing gives the team a clear Pro-Am structure. Mikkel brings international GT and Porsche experience, while Lars adds the amateur element required for the category. Together, they will aim to build confidence quickly as the team adapts to the Porsche 911 GT3R EVO. The new car also gives the team a timely route into GT3 racing, especially as Porsche continues to strengthen its presence across major customer racing platforms.
Mikkel O. Pedersen said the launch of the latest Porsche model created the right moment for the team to step up.
“The launch of the new 992 EVO was a perfect opportunity to get into GT3 racing for our team, the logical next step after many years competing in Porsche mono-brand trophies and in GT4. An international competitive series such as the GT Open was the best choice for this initiation to GT3, and we will attend two sprint and two endurance events. We have a lot to learn, as most of our personnel is quite young, but we are very excited ahead of this new project.”
Spa marks the beginning Mikkel Pedersen Racing
Spa-Francorchamps offers a demanding stage for any GT3 debut. Its long straights, fast corners and changing weather can expose weaknesses quickly. Nevertheless, it also provides the perfect proving ground for a team that wants to test itself at international level.
For Mikkel Pedersen Racing, the GT Open 500 will represent more than a first race in a new series. It will signal the start of a broader GT3 project, one built on Porsche experience, Danish ambition and a clear desire to grow beyond national and one-make competition.
