Kyuho Lee made an impressive start to his GB3 Championship career during the season opener at Silverstone, immediately establishing himself as a competitive presence at the front of the field. The Elite Motorsport driver adapted quickly to the demands of the series and delivered consistent performances across all three races.
The Korean contender qualified inside the top 10 in both sessions, including seventh place on the grid for the opening race. Moreover, Lee steadily improved throughout the weekend and capped off his debut with a fierce battle for the podium in the final race.
With strong pace, growing confidence, and valuable experience already secured, Lee now heads towards Spa-Francorchamps, eager to continue his momentum.
Lee pleased with competitive 2026 GB3 debut at Silverstone
Lee arrived at Silverstone facing a steep learning curve. However, he quickly settled into the championship environment and adapted to the car and competition level with confidence.
As the weekend progressed, the 17-year-old continued to build momentum, and he left the opening round satisfied with both his development and his results.
“I was really happy with how the weekend went overall,” Lee reflected while speaking to GB3. ”Silverstone was my first GB3 event, so there were a lot of new things to learn, but I felt I improved step by step throughout the weekend.
“Scoring strong results and being competitive from the beginning gives me a lot of confidence for the rest of the season.”
Importantly, Lee demonstrated consistent pace across all conditions and showed he could compete immediately against more experienced drivers in the category.
Race three battle highlights Lee’s potential
The clearest sign of Lee’s potential arrived during the final race of the weekend. In an intense closing battle, he fought directly with teammate Flynn Jackes and Hitech driver Jin Nakamura in a thrilling contest for victory.
Although a time penalty eventually removed his podium finish from the final classification, Lee still viewed the race as a major positive step in his GB3 development.
The performance reinforced both his speed and racecraft under pressure, especially during a highly competitive final lap battle.
“Race three was incredibly intense. Proving that I can fight at the sharp end of the grid in my very first weekend was a huge takeaway. It’s given me a clear taste of what’s needed for the upcoming rounds.”
Consequently, Lee leaves Silverstone with greater confidence in his ability to challenge consistently near the front of the grid.
Strong relationship developing with Elite Motorsport
Alongside his strong on-track performances, Lee has also adapted quickly to life with Elite Motorsport. The team environment has already played an important role in helping him settle into the championship.
Furthermore, Lee continues to benefit from working alongside teammate Flynn Jackes, who brings extensive GB3 experience to the squad. That partnership has already helped accelerate Lee’s learning process through data comparison and shared feedback.
“I’m really enjoying the environment at Elite,” he enthused. “The level of professionalism is top-tier, and the synergy between us is growing every time we hit the track. It feels like a place where I can truly maximise my potential.
“It’s good to have Flynn as a teammate who has lots of experience in this car. It’s definitely helpful to compare data and learn from him. I think we are pushing each other in a positive way, and having a strong teammate is really important for development to myself and the team.”
As a result, Lee believes the strong internal competition within the team will continue helping him progress throughout the season.
Genesis support helping Lee’s development
In addition to his work with Elite Motorsport, Lee also continues to develop as part of the Genesis Magma Racing Trajectory Programme. The Hyundai luxury performance division has provided key support throughout his early racing career.
Lee explained that the manufacturer’s backing not only motivates him further but also gives him valuable resources to continue improving as a driver.
“The support from Genesis Magma Racing has been invaluable. Being part of a major manufacturer project adds a layer of responsibility, but they support me a lot on the development side as a driver. I’m trying to maximise to improve and be better all the time, as I get great support from Genesis.”
That support structure has helped Lee approach his rookie GB3 campaign with both confidence and long-term ambition.
Lee eager for first experience of Spa-Francorchamps
Next, Lee prepares for another major milestone as the championship heads to Spa-Francorchamps. The Belgian circuit will present a completely new challenge for the rookie driver, who will race there for the first time.
Nevertheless, Lee feels excited by the opportunity to tackle one of motorsport’s most iconic venues, particularly given its reputation for unpredictable conditions and high-speed corners.
“Spa is a circuit that needs no introduction, it’s a place that every driver dreams of. It will be my first time racing there, and I’m fully aware of its reputation for unpredictable weather and high-speed flow. Mastering a track like this is a challenge I’ve been looking forward to since the start of the season.
“My main focus is to carry the momentum from Silverstone and to keep our upward trajectory. Qualifying will be crucial, if we can secure a strong starting position I’m confident that we will be battling in the front pack for the podium.”
Following an encouraging debut weekend, Lee now heads to Spa carrying both momentum and growing belief that he can establish himself as a regular contender in GB3 during his rookie season.
