Aston Martin F1 Chief Trackside Officer Mike Krack shared that the team is looking to extract the “maximum” from its current package until upgrades arrive later this season.
Since the start of the 2026 season, Aston Martin has been dealing with significant issues that have seen them struggle to complete a full race distance. As a result, the Silverstone-based outfit is currently ranked last in the F1 Constructors’ Championship.
Despite its struggles and the significant performance gap to its rivals, Aston Martin headed into the 2026 F1 Miami GP without any upgrades to the AMR26. After the race, Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso explained why the team is in no rush to introduce upgrades anytime soon.
Aston Martin is set to extract “maximum” until introducing upgrades
While awaiting upgrades, Aston Martin Chief Trackside Officer Mike Krack says the focus will be on enhancing performance in other areas. Concentrating on aspects like the “execution” of the race weekend or the overall “driveability” of the AMR 26 should help Aston Martin get the most out of its current package, Krack states.
“I think you have to acknowledge what is the strategy and what is the plan. Our job at the track here is to get the maximum of what you have.
“I think we can safely say that we are not optimum on everything. You just mentioned optimum execution today, which we didn’t have for one or the other reason. I think we did well, but we could have done better. I think the same applies to energy. The same applies to drivability.
“We have a lot to extract from this package. The way it is at the moment, it’s important that we keep everybody motivated to work on that and then wait for the big steps to come.”
Krack on targeting to improve overall performance at the Canadian GP
The 2026 F1 Canadian GP will be an important race for the team, as it is the home race for driver Lance Stroll and Aston Martin part-owner and executive chairman Lawrence Stroll. Given the importance of the race, Krack says that Aston Martin aims to improve their performance.
“We are looking forward to going to Canada. It’s obviously a big race for us. It’s a big race for the team.
“But it’s also a big race for our collaboration. So, we will go there with improvements. And we try to do better than we have done here [referring to the 2026 F1 Miami GP].”
