James Egozi leaves Portimão as the clear leader of the 2026 Eurocup-3 Championship after a dominant second round in Portugal. The Palou Motorsport driver claimed two victories, a pole position and both fastest laps across the weekend, strengthening his position at the top of the drivers’ standings.
As a result, Egozi now sits on 106 points after two rounds. Keanu Al Azhari remains second on 62 points, while René Lammers has moved into third with 50 points. Meanwhile, Palou Motorsport has taken control of the teams’ championship after a highly productive weekend at the Algarve International Circuit.
Egozi confirms himself as the driver to beat after 2026 Eurocup-3 round in Portimão
The second round of the 2026 Eurocup-3 season confirmed Egozi as the early benchmark. After leaving Paul Ricard with the championship lead, the American arrived in Portugal with momentum and immediately turned that advantage into another major points haul.
Although he did not start Race 1 from pole, Egozi quickly worked his way into control. He attacked early leader René Lammers, managed the Safety Car interruptions, and crossed the line first. Post-race penalties then reshaped the order behind him, with Lammers classified second and Heitor Dall’Agnol promoted to third.
Then, on Sunday, Egozi underlined his form in Qualifying 2. He secured pole position for Race 2 and gave Palou Motorsport the perfect platform to complete a dominant weekend.
El Feghali shines before Race 1 penalty
Christopher El Feghali also played a major role in the Portimão weekend. The Drivex driver opened the round by taking pole position in Qualifying 1, continuing the confidence he had built after his breakthrough Sprint Race victory at Paul Ricard.
However, Race 1 did not deliver the result he wanted. El Feghali initially finished third on the road, but the stewards later handed him a five-second time penalty. That dropped him to ninth in the amended provisional classification and cost him a podium finish.
Even so, his one-lap pace again showed that he can challenge at the front. Therefore, although he left Portugal with fewer points than his speed suggested, El Feghali remains one of the season’s emerging names.
Palou Motorsport dominates Sunday
Sunday’s Race 2 gave Palou Motorsport its strongest result of the season so far. Egozi converted pole position into victory, while Dall’Agnol completed a memorable one-two for the Spanish team.
Dall’Agnol’s result also boosted his own championship position. After taking third in Race 1 and second in Race 2, the Brazilian rookie moved up to fifth in the drivers’ standings with 42 points.
Al Azhari also ended the weekend strongly. The Hitech driver recovered from a difficult Race 1 start and then finished third in Race 2, allowing him to retain second place in the championship. However, Egozi’s perfect Portuguese round has already opened a significant gap at the top.
Rookies strengthen their title presence
Furthermore, the rookie battle remains a key part of the early championship picture. Lammers now leads the rookie contenders in the overall standings after a consistent Portimão round, which included second place in Race 1 and ninth in Race 2.
Ean Eyckmans also kept himself firmly in contention. Although a technical issue forced him out of Race 1, he responded with fourth place in Race 2 and now sits fourth overall on 46 points.
Meanwhile, Dall’Agnol’s podium double moved him to fifth overall. As a result, three rookies now sit inside the top five of the championship, with Lammers, Eyckmans and Dall’Agnol all shaping the early title fight.

Egozi heads to Imola with momentum
After two rounds, Egozi has already built a strong championship lead. His Portimão double gave him a 44-point advantage over Al Azhari, while Lammers, Eyckmans and Dall’Agnol now form a closely matched group behind the leading pair.
However, the opening two rounds have also shown how quickly the order can change. Penalties, Safety Cars and retirements have already reshaped several results, while multiple teams have shown front-running pace.
Therefore, although Egozi leaves Portugal as the clear driver to beat, the championship remains far from settled. The next round at Imola will give Al Azhari, Lammers, Eyckmans, Dall’Agnol and the chasing teams another chance to cut into his advantage.
