The FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and DHL have extended their long-running partnership through a new multi-year agreement.
DHL will continue to operate as the championship’s Official Logistics Partner as FIA WEC prepares to expand to nine rounds in 2027. Furthermore, the company will broaden its involvement by supporting the Asian Le Mans Series for the first time.
The renewed agreement builds on a relationship that began during FIA WEC’s inaugural season in 2012. Since then, DHL has played a central role in moving cars, equipment and essential infrastructure between events across several continents.
Championship growth increases logistical demands
FIA WEC currently visits major markets across Europe, North America, South America, Asia and the Middle East. As the championship grows, DHL must coordinate increasingly complex operations while meeting demanding international schedules.
The company transports race cars, spare parts, garage equipment, broadcasting infrastructure and large quantities of alternative fuels. It also consolidates shipments from several manufacturers and teams before moving them between events.
Consequently, the championship relies on careful planning, flexibility and precise execution to ensure every shipment reaches its destination on time.
According to FIAWEC, Felix Heger, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding DECH, highlighted the increasing importance of the company’s work as FIA WEC attracts more manufacturers.
“With the strong growth of the FIA World Endurance Championship and the increasing number of manufacturers involved, precise and scalable logistics are becoming ever-more critical,” commented Heger. “Our partnership demonstrates how we jointly create the conditions for peak performance, both on and off-track.”
DHL manages a major global operation during FIA WEC season
During a typical FIA WEC season, DHL coordinates transportation for every round on the calendar.
The logistics provider handles approximately 120 containers, thousands of racing tyres and as many as seven dedicated aircraft charters for each intercontinental movement. In addition, a specialist motorsport logistics team supports operations directly at circuits around the world.
This on-site presence allows DHL to respond quickly when teams face schedule changes or other operational challenges. Meanwhile, the company’s global network helps the championship manage tight turnarounds between races in different regions.
The 2027 expansion will increase those responsibilities further. FIA WEC will stage nine rounds for the first time in a decade, while DHL’s new involvement in the Asian Le Mans Series will extend its endurance racing activities beyond the world championship.
Sustainability remains a central priority
Alongside operational efficiency, FIA WEC and DHL have placed sustainability at the centre of their renewed partnership.
DHL uses a combination of air and sea freight to support the championship’s international calendar. Moreover, the company supports alternative fuels and lower-emission transport methods, including biofuel-powered trucks and sustainable marine freight options.
Through these measures, both organisations aim to reduce the environmental impact of a global championship that requires substantial international transportation.
The renewed agreement also maintains DHL’s support for the Sustainable Endurance Award. FIA WEC presents the annual award to teams that demonstrate meaningful progress in environmental management, social responsibility and innovation.
By recognising practical initiatives, the award encourages teams to share successful approaches and continue improving their sustainability programmes throughout the championship.
FIA WEC welcomes renewed agreement with DHL
FIA WEC CEO Frédéric Lequien welcomed the extension and emphasised DHL’s importance as the championship continues its international growth.
“We are delighted to extend our successful partnership with DHL,” said FIA WEC CEO, Frédéric Lequien. “As the FIA World Endurance Championship continues to grow, we count on the support of our trusted partners more than ever and DHL is truly an industry leader in logistics.
“Not only that, but as a global series, we have a duty to minimise our carbon footprint, and DHL wholeheartedly shares our commitment towards a more sustainable future. We look forward to continuing to work together closely over the years to come.”
DHL partnership prepares for FIA WEC’s next chapter
The agreement gives FIA WEC continuity with one of its longest-serving commercial partners as the championship enters another period of expansion.
DHL’s experience will remain vital as the series adds another event, welcomes a growing number of manufacturers and continues to transport increasingly large volumes of equipment worldwide.
At the same time, the partnership will allow both organisations to develop more efficient transport strategies and pursue lower-emission logistics solutions.
Therefore, the renewed deal strengthens more than the championship’s operational foundations. It also supports FIA WEC’s wider effort to combine global growth with a more sustainable approach to international endurance racing.
