Norris returns to Silverstone as the defending British GP winner

Lando Norris heads to Silverstone as the defending British GP winner. The McLaren driver won a dramatic wet-dry race in 2025, leading teammate Oscar Piastri across the line for a McLaren one-two. Nico Hülkenberg completed the podium, securing the first top-three finish of his Formula 1 career.

The 2026 event will be run using the Sprint format. Consequently, the drivers will have only one Free Practice session before Sprint Qualifying on Friday. The Sprint and Grand Prix Qualifying will follow on Saturday, before the 52-lap British GP takes place on Sunday.

Kimi Antonelli arrives at Silverstone with a commanding lead in the Drivers’ Championship. The Italian has 171 points, putting him 40 clear of Mercedes teammate George Russell and 46 ahead of Lewis Hamilton. Russell’s victory at the Austrian Grand Prix moved him back into second place in the standings.

Mercedes also leads the Constructors’ Championship with 302 points. Ferrari is second on 204, while McLaren occupies third with 159.

F2 title fight intensifies as Ugochukwu leads F3 field into the British GP weekend

Only two points separate the leading contenders in the 2026 F2 Drivers’ Championship. Gabriele Minì remains at the top with 108 points, while Austrian Feature Race winner Nikola Tsolov has moved onto 106. Rafael Câmara and Alex Dunne remain in contention with 82 and 80 points respectively.

In F3, Ugo Ugochukwu carries a 16-point championship advantage into Silverstone. The American has accumulated 78 points, with Freddie Slater second on 62 and Théophile Naël third on 52. Bruno del Pino is a further three points behind Naël in fourth.

Palmowski prepares for home F1 Academy round as championship leader

Alisha Palmowski will compete on home soil as the F1 Academy championship leader. The British driver has scored 78 points across the opening two rounds, giving her a 25-point advantage over Emma Felbermayr. Megan Bruce is third with 37 points, one ahead of Payton Westcott.

Silverstone is making its first appearance on the F1 Academy calendar. The drivers will complete practice and qualifying on Friday, followed by the Reverse Grid Race on Saturday and the Feature Race on Sunday.
