Fundraising for Will Macintyre’s Project iMRI campaign reached a new level at Silverstone on Monday, as the #TeamWill37 Charity Kart Race generated more than £127,000 towards a new facility at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
More than 40 teams took part in the event, bringing together drivers, teams and figures from across the wider motorsport community. An ongoing silent auction will further increase the total as Macintyre and his supporters work towards the £6 million needed for a new Intra Operative Magnetic Resonance Imaging facility.
The campaign has particular significance for the GB3 race winner, who has undergone extensive treatment at Addenbrooke’s after being diagnosed with the extremely rare XLP1 genetic condition. Macintyre was well enough to attend Monday’s event and see the motorsport community rally behind the initiative.
Motorsport community turns out at Silverstone
The event attracted more than 160 drivers across over 40 teams for an endurance karting contest at Silverstone, with competitors coming from numerous levels of the sport.
Among the guests were Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft and Aston Martin F1 reserve driver Jak Crawford, while GB3 and GB4 provided particularly strong representation.
Two official entries competed under the Team GB3 and Team GB4 banners. John Cavill, who founded the Pole Position awards used in both championships, entered the two squads.
The GB3 line-up featured current 2026 competitors Jack Taylor and Rowan Campbell-Pilling alongside multiple GB3 race winner James Hedley and former BRDC British F3 race winner turned commentator Piers Prior.
Team GB4 brought together current Hillspeed drivers Enzo Hallman and Demitri Nolan, former GB4 competitor Lucas Blakeley and Spencer Wilds, grandson of former Formula 1 racer Mike Wilds.
GB3 and GB4 teams support Macintyre campaign
Several championship teams also entered their own line-ups, further strengthening the connection between the event and the paddock in which Macintyre established himself as one of Britain’s leading junior single-seater prospects.
Hitech, Elite Motorsport, Fortec Motorsports and Nitrous Competitions ADM Racing all fielded multiple teams.
Deagen Fairclough was among the drivers competing, while Elite Motorsport’s roster included former GB3 racer Tom Lebbon and current GB4 title contender Fred Green.
Fox Motorsport also supported the event with a line-up containing current driver Archie Bullard and Winter Series competitor Robert Crawford alongside GB4 alumni Liam McNeilly and Sid Smith.
Hillspeed race winner Connor Willis also took part as part of the Purple Sectors entry.
The breadth of participation reflected the support that has built around Macintyre since his racing career was placed on hold.
Project iMRI targets £6 million
Macintyre and his family launched the Project iMRI campaign earlier in 2026 with the aim of raising £6 million for an intra-operative MRI facility at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
An iMRI scanner allows surgeons to obtain detailed imaging while a patient remains in the operating theatre. The technology can reduce delays between procedures and scans, improve the availability of information during complex operations and potentially shorten hospital stays.
Macintyre’s own lengthy diagnostic process helped inspire the campaign. After extensive testing and treatment, he was diagnosed with XLP1, an exceptionally rare genetic condition for which a stem cell transplant represents the known curative treatment.
The former British F4 runner-up challenged for the GB3 title in 2024 and returned as a multiple race winner in 2025 before health problems brought his campaign to an early end.
Fundraising continues beyond kart race
Monday’s £127,000-plus total represents another significant contribution towards the £6 million target, but fundraising continues following the Silverstone event.
The #TeamWill37 silent auction remains open, with motorsport memorabilia and experiences among the items supporting Project iMRI. Previous fundraising around the campaign has included a Formula 1 helmet donated by Racing Bulls driver Arvid Lindblad, which generated £60,000 towards the appeal.
The wider campaign has also included merchandise sales and direct donations, with proceeds supporting the effort to bring the iMRI facility to Addenbrooke’s.
With more than £127,000 raised from the charity kart race alone and further funds still to come from the auction, the Silverstone event marked another major step for a campaign that has brought together competitors from across the motorsport community in support of Macintyre and Project iMRI.
