Spa-Francorchamps has long been a proving ground for young drivers, a circuit where bold decisions and unflinching confidence often make the difference. For Reza Seewooruthun, the Belgian weekend marked a turning point in his GB3 campaign. After two difficult opening races, he rolled the dice on strategy in the finale and was rewarded with his maiden podium in the championship — and the first for the newly formed Argenti with Prema alliance.
Securing the podium
After finishing outside the top ten in the first two contests, Seewooruthun needed something special in the last race to rescue his weekend. His calm determination to fight back was rewarded with silverware.
Reflecting on his Spa success, he said, “The podium at Spa was a great way to end the weekend, especially as we were struggling throughout the weekend.”
Looking ahead, he acknowledged how the result could shift momentum in his favour.
“We knew we had to do something different for the final race, and it definitely boosts my confidence going into Hungary. I think it gives us the edge on other people.”
The slick tyre gamble
Race three began in tricky conditions, with rain showers earlier in the morning leaving the track damp but drying rapidly. With the grid split on tyre choices, Seewooruthun and his engineer took a calculated risk on slick Pirellis. It was a call that proved decisive.
“Going into race three we knew we had nothing to lose. It was always going to be tricky at the start of the race, but Matt our head engineer was confident that it would be the right call. After doing the out lap, I knew that it would pay off in the later stages of the race.”
Building momentum
The Spa podium was not an isolated result, but rather the continuation of a steady climb in form. Just two weeks earlier, Seewooruthun had enjoyed his strongest weekend yet at Zandvoort, taking two top-five finishes. He believes that consistency is now within reach.
“We had a tough start to the championship at Silverstone, but the team did a mega job with the car at Zandvoort and put us in the fight to be in the top-five consistently, so I believe that top-fives will become the goal now.”
Team progress
For Seewooruthun, the result carried additional meaning because it was also the first podium for the Argenti with Prema collaboration in GB3. The British teenager is quick to credit the team’s efforts in bringing together new people, new ideas, and a new car.
“We knew bringing lots of people from different places and starting a whole new team would be a challenge, especially when not everyone knows each other, and on top of that having a brand new car. But the team has been mega to work with and have really helped work on me as a driver.”
Looking ahead to Hungary
With Spa in the books, attention now turns to the Hungaroring. It will be Seewooruthun’s first time racing in Budapest, but he is already optimistic that the GB3 car will thrive on the high-speed corners of the technical circuit.
“It’ll be my first time racing in Hungary. The track looks phenomenal to drive and the GB3 car should suit the circuit’s high-speed nature. It will be a case of who can adapt quickest to the track and deliver the lap in quali, so I think we have a shot at pole.”
