Alex Albon comes in at ninth in Pit Debrief’s F1 2025 Driver Rankings, on the back of the Williams driver completing one of his most competitive seasons to date.
Albon finished the 2025 F1 season 8th in the Drivers’ Championship with 73 points, the best result for the London-born driver since he joined Williams in 2022. The Thai driver showed impressive form, particularly in the first two-thirds of the season, scoring points in 10 out of 16 rounds. The results dropped in the last third of the season, but his performances in the earlier stages were enough to place Albon ninth in the Pit Debrief 2025 F1 Driver Rankings.
Albon’s season summarised
Albon started the season on a high, finishing fifth at the opening round of the 2025 F1 season in Australia. A result he repeated on three more occasions at the Emilia Romagna GP, Miami GP, and Dutch GP. Fifth place turned out to be Albon’s highest finishing position, a solid result considering Williams had opted not to bring significant updates for their 2025 challenger. With the performance gap across the teams significantly lower than in previous F1 seasons, Albon’s results were even more impressive.
However, the strong start to the 2025 F1 season contrasted with a rather lacklustre final run of races for Albon, who has failed to score points since the Italian GP in Monza, except for a P6 finish in the US GP Sprint Race. Albon’s comparatively poor results were further highlighted by his teammate, who landed on the podium in Baku and Qatar, as well as in the Sprint Race in Austin.
Partially to blame for Albon’s late-season drop-off were several strategic errors, such as starting the Mexico City GP on the hard tyre or Williams opting to extend his first stint on the medium tyre at the F1 São Paulo GP.
Albon’s best performance of the 2025 F1 season
Albon arguably delivered his seasonal best performance in the opening round in Australia. The 2025 season began with an aborted start, a 15-minute delay, three safety car restarts, and multiple incidents. Treacherous rain worsened the chaotic start to the season. Despite the hurdles, Albon delivered a masterful performance in defending P4 against the Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli, who eventually slipped past Albon on the final laps. Nevertheless, he executed perfectly in a challenging and chaotic setting to finish a strong fifth.
Low point of the 2025 F1 season
Despite Albon delivering solid performances in the first half of the 2025 F1 season, a low point came when the Thai driver experienced three consecutive DNFs in Spain, Canada, and Austria. The three consecutive DNFs, as well as failing to score points in the final stretch of the season, put a damper on what was otherwise an excellent season for the 29-year-old.
How did Albon fare against his teammate?

In the 2025 F1 season, Albon teamed up with experienced, race-winning driver Carlos Sainz, taking on a new challenge after previously partnering with Nicholas Latifi and rookies Logan Sargeant and Franco Colapinto.
Compared to his new teammate, Albon was the stronger driver at the beginning of the season, as his teammate struggled to get on top of the car.
Sainz caught up in the final stages of the 2025 F1 season, scoring big points from podium finishes at the Azerbaijan and Qatar GPs, bringing the Williams drivers closer in the standings. Despite a late-season rise from Sainz where he clearly held a pace advantage and won the qualifying battle 14-10, Albon had held a significant points margin over the Spaniard for more than half a season. Albon ultimately finished the 2025 F1 season with 73 points, 9 points ahead of Sainz.
Overall, the duo looked pretty evenly matched, with Albon leading the charge throughout the first half while Sainz was the driver ahead in the second half. Together, Albon and Sainz were responsible for Williams finishing a strong and largely uncontested 5th place in the F1 Constructors’ Championship.
