Ferrari-backed Dino Beganovic is aiming for a stronger season with DAMS Lucas Oil as he enters his second F2 campaign in 2026. The 22 year-old returns to the team he made his F2 debut with in 2024, following a year with Hitech TGR in which he finished 7th in the Drivers’ Standings with 116 points.

During his rookie season, the Swede claimed three podiums and a victory, alongside eleven points-scoring outings to finish within the top ten. In a recent virtual media session, Beganovic spoke to Pit Debrief and other media outlets about the lessons he learned and the goals he has set for the 2026 F2 season.

Lessons learnt from his rookie season

The 2025 season was full of ups and downs for Beganovic, who often struggled to keep up with his teammate Luke Browning. Heading into this year, however, he reflects on how his relationship with the team has developed over the past few weeks.

He said: “Well, heading into this second year, I’m very excited coming back to DAMS, where I started my F2 career, let’s say, doing the two rounds in [20]24. But there are always things to work on. As a team, the connection, obviously, having these pre-season tests has helped a lot to get closer to them, even though we were in a good place already. But always things to work on.”

He highlighted the challenges of F2, noting that perfection is rare across race weekends. Beganovic further emphasised the importance of minimising mistakes and consistency, in which he believes the reigning F2 Champion Leonardo Fornaroli exemplifies, for any driver aiming to win a championship.

“If it’s in the race weekend, race management, or qualifying, I think F2 is a very difficult championship, and it’s very difficult to be perfect. So you always need to try to minimise the mistakes, and I think a prime example is Leo [Fornaroli] last year that didn’t qualify outside top 10.

“And, I think everybody will be looking at that, that wants to win the championship, and keep that in account, and be thinking about the big picture, which, yeah, it takes a lot to win a championship, but consistency is the key.”

Eyeing success and consistency with DAMS

While Beganovic showed the speed to achieve results he deserved, maintaining the consistency needed to convert that pace into strong points finishes proved challenging last year. “Yeah, I think last year was a roller-coaster.”, said Beganovic.

“I think the end of last year was very good. So, I bring that, let’s say, momentum for this year. But yeah, I think it was especially the middle part of the year that I was clearly missing some pace. I was not really comfortable where I was car-wise and in general with the situation. But we made some changes after the summer break, which suited me a lot better, and the results started to come.”

He stressed that feeling comfortable within the car and team will be key to success. For Beganovic, staying ready to seize every opportunity remains a crucial factor as well, but maintaining the consistency Fornaroli showcased during his title charge last year remains the Swede’s main goal for the season.

He added: “So, I think making sure that I’m feeling well within the team, with the people around me, and also with the car, will be the right thing. Then after, I think always being able to take, let’s say, the opportunities that come, and not, let’s say, be resting at any point, but always be ready for what comes, will be my main goal this year. Like I said before, consistency, like Leo [Fornaroli], is the prime example.”
