After an interrupted Free Practice session, Formula 2 (F2) returned to the Baku City Circuit for the first Qualifying session of the 2026 Azerbaijan GP weekend.
Kush Maini had set the pace earlier in the day and looked strong throughout Practice, but Qualifying quickly shifted the focus to who could put together a clean lap around the demanding street circuit.
As the second set of laps got underway, most drivers struggled to improve. Noel León found more time and moved up to third behind the two Rodin Motorsport cars, while Rafael Câmara benefited from a strong tow from his teammate to climb to fifth.
Championship leader Nikola Tsolov returned to the pit lane late in the session, leaving him at risk as the final laps came in. Gabriele Minì also found himself outside the top ten, sitting 14th in the order as the pressure increased.
Dino Beganovic remained on a lap as the chequered flag waved and looked set to challenge for the top ten after producing a purple middle sector. However, without a tow, the Swede could only move up to eighth.
Tsolov narrowly held on to a place inside the top ten in 10th, avoiding a near disaster for his championship bid. At the front, Alex Dunne secured his first pole position of the season, putting Rodin Motorsport on top in the first Qualifying session of the Azerbaijan GP weekend.
