Qualifying for Round 15 of the 2026 Formula E Tokyo E-Prix has been completed, with the drivers first battling through the group stages before progressing into the head-to-head Duels. View the full results here.

The drivers entered qualifying without completing any on-track running on Sunday after Formula E cancelled Free Practice 3 because of dangerous weather conditions. Persistent rain left the Tokyo Street Circuit unsuitable for running, preventing the teams from making any final adjustments before qualifying.

The championship battle also remained incredibly close following Saturday’s race. Dan Ticktum claimed victory after overtaking Jake Dennis on the final lap, while Nick Cassidy completed the podium. Mitch Evans moved into the lead of the Drivers’ Championship after Pascal Wehrlein failed to finish, giving the Jaguar driver a three-point advantage ahead of Round 15.

Group stages

In Group A, António Félix Da Costa set the pace with a lap time of 1:15.157, finishing ahead of Evans. Taylor Barnard and Norman Nato also secured places in the Duel stages.

Nico Müller narrowly missed out on progressing after finishing fifth, just 0.287 seconds behind Nato. Yesterday’s pole sitter Dennis couldn’t bring the same pace on track as the Briton lined up in ninth inside Group A. Meanwhile, due to the wet track conditions, the drivers needed to keep it clean on both the wet and the dry patches in Tokyo.

In Group B, Edoardo Mortara went fastest with a 1:14.216, leading Nyck De Vries, Ticktum and Oliver Rowland into the Duels.

Pepe Martí missed out on progressing by only 0.582 seconds, while Maximilian Günther run wide and needed to use the run-off area to keep his car out of the barriers.

The results meant that two championship contenders were out of the Duel stages, giving Evans, who currently leads Wehrlein with 3 points, a clear advantage with a seemingly better starting position.

Duel stages

Barnard knocked out Championship Leader Evans in the opening Quarter Final after setting a lap time of 1:13.282. The DS Penkse driver gained 0.555 seconds over Evans to secure the first place in the Semi Finals.

In the second Quarter Final, Da Costa defeated Nato by 0.207 seconds after the Jaguar driver had an impressive third sector, while Nato almost lost the car.

The third duel saw Ticktum advance against De Vries. And while Ticktum had a big oversteer moment in turn 16, De Vries wasn’t able to catch the CUPRA KIRO driver.

The final Quarter Final was decided by 1.207 seconds, as Mortara produced a lap of 1:12.641 to defeat Rowland and complete the Semi Final line-up. Rowland made a mistake as he went almost completely sideways, costing him a place in the Semi Finals.

In the first Semi Final, Da Costa advanced into the Final after beating Barnard by 0.127 seconds. The second Semi Final saw Ticktum face Mortara. Mortara overturned a slow first sector from Ticktum and a slight hit at the wall to secure a place in the Final with a lap time of 1:12.650, finishing 0.160 seconds ahead.

In the final Duel, Mortara produced a lap time of 1:12.341 to defeat Da Costa by 0.677 seconds, securing his fourth Formula E pole position of the season and the first starting position for Round 15 of the Tokyo E-Prix.
