Josh McLean fought back from fifth on the grid to claim his second victory of the 2026 GB4 season in a chaotic Race 3 at Donington Park.

The Pace Performance driver twice surged into second following an opening-lap red flag before passing polesitter Jasser Iskander for the lead. Demitri Nolan later moved ahead at the Old Hairpin, but McLean remained within striking distance and reclaimed first on Lap 10.

McLean crossed the line 1.103s ahead of Nolan after 12 laps, with Luke Hilton another 0.450s behind in third. Alex O’Grady’s fourth-place recovery ensured that the KMR Sport driver left Donington Park at the top of the championship.

Opening-lap collision forces red flag

Iskander started from pole position and made a strong launch to retain the lead on the run towards Redgate. McLean also produced an exceptional start. The Pace Performance driver gained three positions from fifth and emerged in second behind the Fox Motorsport rookie.

However, an incident involving six cars at Goddards brought the opening lap to a premature end. Dayton Coulthard was spun around before Matan Achituv, Emilio Valentino Del Grosso, Connor Willis, John O’Donnell and Conor Grant became caught in the resulting collision.

Officials stopped the race, with none of the six drivers able to take the restart. The original grid order was reinstated with vacant spaces for the eliminated cars. Pre-event championship leader Fred Green was also forced to begin the restarted race from the pit lane following a separate incident.

McLean passes Iskander after second strong start

Iskander again made a clean getaway when the race restarted and maintained the lead through Redgate. McLean replicated his earlier launch and once more climbed from fifth to second during the opening corners. This time, the British driver was able to make his progress count. He remained close to Iskander before completing a move at the Melbourne Hairpin to take the lead.

Nolan also made significant progress on the opening lap. The Hillspeed driver gained three positions from sixth and moved into third. Iskander soon came under further pressure from Nolan and Arden Motorsport’s Solenn Amrouche. After a lap-long battle, both drivers moved ahead of the polesitter at the Fogarty Esses.

Bocquet incident prompts Safety Car

The Safety Car was deployed on Lap 2 after Romuald Bocquet was nudged into the gravel at McLeans. The Scorpio Racing driver could not rejoin and became the first retirement after the restart. McLean therefore led Nolan and Amrouche behind the Safety Car, while Iskander had dropped from pole position to fourth during the opening phase.

Officials withdrew the Safety Car at the beginning of Lap 5, giving Nolan an immediate opportunity to challenge McLean.

Nolan completes brave move at Old Hairpin

Nolan attacked the lead as soon as racing resumed. The American moved to the inside of McLean under braking for Redgate, but the Pace Performance driver fought back and initially retained the position on the exit.

Nolan remained alongside through the high-speed Craner Curves. He kicked up dust while moving to the inside before forcing his way ahead under braking for the Old Hairpin. The move placed Nolan in the lead, but he was unable to escape from McLean.

The gap remained below half a second for much of the following five laps, with McLean maintaining constant pressure on the Hillspeed driver.

McLean reclaims lead on Lap 10

Nolan held first place until Lap 10, when McLean finally found a way back ahead. The Pace Performance driver quickly established enough of a margin to prevent Nolan from responding during the final two laps.

McLean completed the 12-lap contest in 20m15.789s to claim his second victory in as many GB4 race weekends.

Nolan finished 1.103s behind in second. The result represented a four-position gain from sixth on the grid and, by a considerable margin, his best GB4 finish.

Hilton completes third podium of weekend

Hilton continued his productive Donington Park weekend with another recovery through the field. The Nitrous Competition ADM Racing driver started ninth and gained six positions with a series of combative moves. Hilton eventually climbed into third and crossed the line only 0.450s behind Nolan.

The result gave the British driver his third podium of the weekend and moved him into fourth place in the championship standings.

O’Grady retains championship lead with fourth

O’Grady also gained six positions after starting 10th. The KMR Sport driver avoided the incidents and emerged in fourth, finishing 2.581s behind McLean. The result ensured that O’Grady remained at the top of the standings at the end of the Donington Park weekend.

Green produced his own substantial recovery after taking the restart from the pit lane. The Elite Motorsport driver charged through the field to finish sixth and limited the championship damage.

Green left the ninth race of the season 11 points behind O’Grady.

Hallman charges from 24th to fifth

Enzo Hallman delivered the largest recovery of the race. The Hillspeed driver started 24th but gained 19 positions during the 20-minute contest to finish fifth.

Hallman also recorded the fastest lap with a 1m29.660s on the final tour, maintaining third place in the championship standings.

Iskander held on to finish seventh and secure his best GB4 result. The Fox Motorsport rookie crossed the line only 0.163s ahead of Arden Motorsport’s Michael Koh.

Franciszek Cegielski took ninth for Fortec Motorsports, while Torrin Byrne recovered to complete the top 10 for Pace Performance.

Amrouche dropped to 11th, ahead of Archie Bullard, Thomas Ingram Hill, Archie Davies and Jordyn Martin.

McLean continues winning momentum

McLean’s victory followed his earlier success at Oulton Park and gave him a second win in successive GB4 race weekends. The Pace Performance driver overcame two starts, a red flag, a Safety Car period and the loss of the lead to Nolan before returning to the front.

Nolan’s second place completed a breakthrough performance for the Hillspeed driver, while Hilton ended an impressive weekend with another podium.

O’Grady’s recovery to fourth, combined with Green’s charge to sixth, ensured that the championship battle remained closely contested after the final Donington Park race.
